As a huge fan, I’m still buzzing about the latest season of Bridgerton on Netflix! It was so great to finally see Benedict Bridgerton find love with Sophie Baek – their story was really captivating. It’s amazing to me that, five years in, the show is still a massive hit. And let’s not forget Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story – that spin-off was fantastic too! Seriously, Shonda Rhimes and her team just seem to nail everything they do with this world.
The series Queen Charlotte explored the life of the main character, portrayed by Golda Rosheuvel in the present day and India Amarteifio as a young woman. While a second season hasn’t been officially confirmed, creator Shonda Rhimes has mentioned the possibility of spin-offs focusing on other characters. In 2023, Rhimes specifically expressed interest in developing a story around the character Violet, calling her ‘fascinating’ and hinting at a compelling narrative.
Shonda Rhimes recently discussed the future of Bridgerton on the Glass Half Full podcast with Craig Melvin, confirming that more spin-offs are planned. She explained that they’re eager to explore those possibilities, believing there’s a lot of potential in the Bridgerton universe. Rhimes specifically mentioned that she thinks Violet Bridgerton, the mother in the series, would be a fantastic character to center a spin-off around.
While it’s not confirmed, there’s growing evidence suggesting Violet Bridgerton (played by Ruth Gemmell) will be the focus of the next Bridgerton spin-off story.

Netflix
Violet Bridgerton, the mother of the eight Bridgerton children, spent the first three seasons of the show focused on finding love for them. In season four, she found a potential romance with Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis), but ultimately decided that her own independence was more important, and they went their separate ways.
A potential spin-off series could follow Violet Bridgerton’s life, much like Queen Charlotte. It could show two different time periods: Violet enjoying life as an independent woman and potentially finding new love in the present, and flashbacks to her courtship with and marriage to Edmund Bridgerton, the father of the Bridgerton siblings. We’ve already seen glimpses of young Edmund, played by Rupert Evans, in season 2 flashbacks – he passed away about ten years before the main Bridgerton story begins.
Julia Quinn, the author of the Bridgerton novels, also wrote a short story called “Violet in Bloom” focusing on Violet and Edmund’s younger years. This story, published in her 2013 collection The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After, could serve as a starting point for the show’s creators, led by Shonda Rhimes, if they want to explore that period of their lives.
Before a potential spin-off arrives, fans can still enjoy more of the original Bridgerton series. Netflix has confirmed seasons 5 and 6 are planned, and season 5 could be released as soon as 2027. It’s clear the show remains popular and has plenty more stories to tell.
