Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk series to end this fall after four seasons

After four years on air, Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, “Sherri,” will be concluding. The show originally began as a replacement for “The Wendy Williams Show.”

Debmar-Mercury, a TV syndication company and part of Lionsgate Television, has confirmed that the fourth season of “Sherri” will proceed as scheduled and conclude this fall. A spokesperson for Sherri Shepherd couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.

Debmar-Mercury, the company behind the show, explained the cancellation by pointing to changes in the daytime TV market. In a statement to The Times, co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus emphasized that the decision wasn’t a reflection of the show’s quality, its improving production, or the talent of Sherri Shepherd.

Though “Sherri” will finish its current season soon, the executives at Debmar-Mercury are confident in the show and its host, Sherri Shepherd, and are looking for ways to continue it on different channels or platforms.

In 2022, Debmar-Mercury chose Sherri Shepherd to host her own show, taking over after “The Wendy Williams Show” concluded. The long-running talk show ended after 13 seasons due to Wendy Williams’ health struggles with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid.

Before starting her own show, “Sherri,” Shepherd was a guest host on “The View” while Wendy Williams was taking time off for health reasons.

Before her show launched in September 2022, Jessica Shepherd told Yahoo Entertainment she wanted the series to offer viewers a welcome break from negative news and difficult times.

She explained that she was overwhelmed by everything she was seeing on platforms like Instagram and other social media. She just needed a break – a chance to relax, laugh, and feel good. That’s what she was looking for.

Sherri Shepherd wants her new show, ‘Sherri,’ to be a relaxing and uplifting experience for viewers, a change from the often intense discussions on her previous show, ‘The View’.

Since it began, “Sherri” has welcomed a variety of guests, such as Danny DeVito, Michelle Obama, Geena Davis, Misty Copeland, Quinta Brunson, and Andy Cohen. The show has been recognized with multiple Daytime Emmy nominations and has also won two NAACP Image Awards.

In November, Shepherd was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which she playfully called a ‘rite of passage’ during an episode of her talk show.

She playfully said she doesn’t mind people stepping all over her – even literally, joking they might even dance on her – as long as they remember who she is. She’s happy with any attention, even if it’s not always respectful, as long as she gets the recognition she deserves.

She explained that people criticizing her success are actually disrespecting her difficult journey, which included personal hardships like divorce and a constant need to work hard to overcome obstacles.

Right before news broke that “Sherri” was ending, Kelly Clarkson announced on Monday that her talk show would finish after seven seasons.

Following Ego Nwodim’s exit from ‘Saturday Night Live,’ Sherri Shepherd is calling on the show to hire another Black woman. She’s even offered some suggestions for potential cast members who could fill the role.

In a recent statement, Kelly Clarkson explained she’s focusing on her two children, who she shares with her late ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. While her daytime talk show is finishing up, she reassured fans that she’ll continue to make music, perform, and fulfill other television commitments.

“You never know where I might show up next,” Clarkson said.
