See Olivia Williams as Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen in new image from Dune: Prophecy
As a dedicated fan who’s traversed the labyrinthine expanse of the Dune universe since discovering it nestled within the dusty folds of my father’s library, I must say that HBO’s decision to delve into the prequel series Dune: Prophecy has sent shivers of anticipation down my spine.
In November, HBO will broadcast a six-episode series titled “Dune: Prophecy“, which takes place in the universe of Frank Herbert’s “Dune“. Given that “Dune: Part Two ” was one of the most successful films at the box office in 2024, HBO is seizing the moment to capitalize on this popularity.
The series “Dune: Prophecy” is set millennia before Paul Atreides was born. Among the numerous Dune books available, this show appears to draw heavily from a trilogy written by Brian Herbert, son of Frank Herbert, and science fiction author Kevin J. Anderson. This trilogy, published in 2012 (“Sisterhood of Dune”), 2014 (“Mentats of Dune”), and 2016 (“Navigators of Dune”), focuses on characters like Tula and Valya Harkonnen, who are sisters belonging to the Bene Gesserit order in its early stages. Actresses Olivia Williams and Emily Watson will portray these characters.
Over the years, Williams has been extremely productive, gracing projects ranging from “The Sixth Sense” to “The Crown”. Similarly, Watson boasts an impressive resume, featuring films such as “Breaking the Waves” and “Gosford Park”, and receiving Emmy nominations for her work in HBO’s “Chernobyl”. The series will also star actors like Mark Strong, Sarah Lam, Camilla Beeput, and Travis Fimmel. When it comes to talent, HBO never holds back.
Just got a sneak peek at the initial image of Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen, freshly unveiled! Already had a glimpse of Watson as Valya Harkonnen. You can check it out above!
As Denis Villeneuve prepares another Dune film adaptation from Frank Herbert’s book Dune Messiah, featuring Timothée Chalamet reprising his role as Paul Atreides, audiences might wonder if they’ll appreciate an HBO series unrelated to the familiar Dune narrative. The release date for this series remains undisclosed, but we do know that it will consist of six episodes, titled Dune: Prophecy.
