Jen Affleck, from the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, spoke out about the series following accusations of domestic violence against her co-star, Taylor Frankie Paul.
As someone who keeps a close eye on what resonates with audiences, I’ve noticed a growing desire for authenticity. This particular reality TV star, just 26 years old, recently shared on Instagram that she’d love to see the show lean more into genuine, relatable moments instead of manufactured drama. It’s a sentiment I think a lot of viewers can get behind – we all crave a little more realness!
I started on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives wanting to tell my story, and hoping it would connect with or inspire others, she explained.
Affleck explained she wanted to share an honest look at what it means to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including both the positive and challenging aspects.
She explained she wanted to discuss the challenges many couples experience, particularly those who marry young and navigate cultural and family expectations, referencing her own 2019 wedding to Zac Affleck.
I wanted to describe the experience of entering a completely new world and dealing with how different it was from my own.
After having a baby, I joined ‘Dancing with the Stars’ to show other mothers how strong and capable we are. I wanted to remind us all that it’s okay to pursue our own goals while also being amazing mothers, Affleck explained.
I know people tune into reality TV for the drama, but I’d love to see more of the genuine, positive moments as well – things like women supporting each other, childbirth experiences, and the joys of becoming a mother.
Affleck shared that she’s always been passionate about encouraging and inspiring people, particularly mothers, by helping them feel understood and optimistic.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people on TikTok asking “Who is Jen Affleck?” and honestly, I can relate. I’m still in the process of figuring out my own identity, beliefs, goals, and place in the world.
She ended her post by thanking everyone for their support, acknowledging that she’s still growing and learning. She expressed hope that by being open and honest about her imperfections, she could inspire positivity in others.
Affleck shared a post featuring photos of herself and her family over the years. This included pictures with her husband, Zac, and their three young children: daughters Nora, age four, and Penelope, eight months, and son Luca, age two. She also included photos from her time on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars.
Her husband shared a message of support, commenting, ‘I love you [red heart emoji].’
Season 5 of Mormon Wives is temporarily stopped while authorities investigate claims of domestic violence involving Paul and his former partner, Dakota Mortensen, who appears on the show.

ABC cancelled the planned airing of season 22 of The Bachelorette this Sunday after video surfaced showing a contestant, Paul, throwing chairs during a 2023 incident. The footage, which included his eight-year-old daughter Indy, was leaked online.
Following the release of a new video today, we’ve decided to pause plans for the next season of The Bachelorette and are currently prioritizing support for the family involved, a Disney Entertainment spokesperson told Us Weekly on Thursday.
According to TMZ, five of the twenty-two contestants who vied for the affection of the Utah native are considering suing ABC and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Paul remains on probation until August 4th as part of a plea agreement related to an aggravated assault charge. She pleaded guilty after throwing her phone, a wooden playset, and metal barstools at Mortensen while intoxicated.
According to People magazine, Mortensen was given temporary custody of their two-year-old son, Ever, last Thursday. Paul is not allowed to have any contact with their son and must stay at least 100 feet away until a court hearing on April 7th.
The couple, known for their turbulent relationship, had a physical altercation as recently as February. He claimed she choked him, damaged his necklace, and scratched his neck after discovering he had been intimate with his co-star, Shinia Powell.
Utah’s Child and Family Services is currently investigating allegations of abuse made by Mortensen. The investigation is ongoing and includes psychological evaluations for both people involved.
Paul has two children: a daughter named Indy and a son named Ocean, who is five years old. She had these children during her five-year marriage to Tate Paul, which ended in 2022 after a public scandal involving infidelity.
Taylor has expressed deep gratitude for the support she’s received from ABC while focusing on keeping her family safe. She’s been privately dealing with years of severe mental and physical abuse and intimidation, but is now finding the courage to confront her abuser and protect herself and her children from future harm, she shared in a statement.
It breaks my heart knowing so many women are going through this, trapped by exes who just won’t leave them alone – the controlling, jealous types. And Taylor… oh, Taylor. I understand why she hasn’t spoken up. She’s been terrified of what he’d do, of more abuse, of the humiliation. But I also know she’s incredibly strong. She’s figuring things out, getting the help she needs, and I can just feel it – she’s getting ready to finally tell her story, to take back control, and I’m so proud of her for even considering it. It’s going to be huge when she does.
On Saturday, TikTok creator Holden Smith shared a video discussing Paul’s habit of constantly using her phone during the controversy.
She clapped back in the comments: ‘Want me to stare at the wall instead?’
On Saturday, Paul was seen in Salt Lake City, Utah, wearing a blue Nodpod sweatshirt with the phrase ‘Can’t Wait To Sleep With You’ on it. Even with recent difficulties, she seemed cheerful and was smiling.
