Sea of Stars ‘Dawn of Equinox’ Update Coming in November With 3-Player Local Co-Op, New Mechanics, and More

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the announcement of Sea of Stars’ Dawn of Equinox update. The prospect of local campaign co-op for up to three players is music to my ears, and the new ‘Co-Op Timed Hits’ combat mechanic promises to bring a fresh twist to an already engaging battle system.

Developer Sabotage Studio has unveiled that an upcoming update for the popular ’90s-inspired RPG, Sea of Stars, called ‘Dawn of Equinox’, will arrive in November, as a token of appreciation to its massive player base of over 5 million.

In the Equinox update coming soon, you’ll have the opportunity to embark on the main campaign cooperatively with up to three companions. This means you can journey through the story hand-in-hand with your friends, sharing the adventure and uncovering the world together. Additionally, a fresh combat mechanic called ‘Co-Op Timed Hits’ will be introduced, offering an exciting new way for you all to coordinate your attacks.

In Sea of Stars, ‘Mystery Locks’ will introduce an exciting gameplay mechanic where defeating various enemy types in combat will gradually unveil methods to counteract and break their spells. Some characters’ special abilities will include a ‘Discover’ function, and Combo Points earned during battle can be saved for future use to unlock specific encounters or experiment with different attack strategies to expose the weaknesses of enemies, represented as these ‘Mystery Locks’.

Furthermore, a thorough adjustment process has been implemented to incorporate player feedback and updates, along with a revised prologue, an extra cinematic scene during the ‘Paths on Water’ section, a Speedrunner Mode enhancement, new difficulty levels, a more effective parrot relic, Quebecois language support, and numerous user experience enhancements.

The Equinox update for Sea of Stars is scheduled to arrive on November 12th. This update will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Before the release of the “Throes of the Watchmaker” DLC in spring 2025, which is free.
