‘Scream 7’ Box Office Projections Predict Top Opening of 2026

With its release just around the corner, Scream 7 is creating a lot of excitement. The marketing has promised a return to the style of earlier films, boosted by the return of original star Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and the involvement of franchise creator Kevin Williamson as director, appealing to longtime fans. While high expectations can lead to disappointment, early predictions suggest Scream 7 is set to be a box office hit.

Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7 after not appearing in Scream VI because of a disagreement over pay. Originally, Scream 7 was intended to conclude a story arc focusing on the new characters Sam and Tara Carpenter, but those plans changed when Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega were no longer involved. The film is now being reimagined as a return to the series’ roots, focusing on Sidney’s story. The plot will center around Sidney bringing her teenage daughter back to their hometown, where the daughter becomes the latest target of Ghostface, forcing Sidney to confront the killer and stop the violence for good.

Scream 7 is expected to have a huge opening weekend, potentially breaking records for the 30-year-old horror series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Experts predict the film will earn at least $40 million in its first three days in North American theaters, with some estimates reaching $45 million. This would make it the highest-grossing opening weekend of the year so far, beating the $32.8 million debut of the recent Wuthering Heights adaptation. It could also come close to the franchise record held by Scream VI, which opened with $44.4 million in March 2023. Globally, the film is projected to earn around $60 million during its opening weekend, making it the second-highest opening in the series, just behind Scream VI’s $66.4 million worldwide debut.
