Sauron actor teases reunion with Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2
As a seasoned gamer and diehard Tolkien fan with over two decades of Middle-earth adventures under my belt, I am beyond excited for the imminent premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video! The second season promises to delve deeper into the origins of the Dark Lord Sauron and his corrupting rings, a tale that has captivated us all since the publication of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic novels.
In a few short days, we’ll be catching the debut of season 2 for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” on Amazon Prime Video. This series is set in the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth and follows the tale of how the malevolent figure, Sauron (portrayed by Charlie Vickers), entered the craft of jewelry-making and began tainting Elves, dwarves, and men using enchanted rings. The first season concluded with the unveiling of Sauron’s true identity, having deceived the Elf Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark) as a human named Halbrand and earning her trust.
It appears that Galadriel might be aware of Sauron’s hidden true form, yet she seems unusually fascinated by the rings he was involved in crafting. One would think such an interest wouldn’t result in any harmful consequences for the Elven folk.
In the television series “The Rings of Power,” it sometimes takes creative liberties with J.R.R. Tolkien’s original works. Some adaptations are more effective than others, and one intriguing alteration is that in this version, Galadriel and Sauron share a deeply personal history. It was largely due to Galadriel’s actions that Sauron returned to Middle-earth and regained his strength initially. This background may stir complex emotions in season 2, particularly during scenes where these characters meet again.
Undoubtedly, they’ll meet again. In the recently released trailer for season 2 of “The Rings of Power“, there’s a fleeting moment where Sauron and Galadriel engage in a sword fight, with Sauron’s crown precariously poised between them, as shown in the video above.
This moment. Galadriel ⚔️ Sauron.

Charlie Vickers, who plays Sauron, said to GamesRadar+ that the trailer scene is significant because it feels like reconnecting with someone from your past. It’s as if you run into an old acquaintance, and since he looks different now, it’s a surprise encounter. There’s a lot at play for both of them, and a great deal is on the line.
You’ll understand when we get to the scene, but it’s incredibly high stakes, and there’s a huge amount of urgency in each of them trying to obtain what they want in that situation, which leads to some, I think I can say, conflict because they’re sword fighting in the trailer.
In a previous interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Vickers highlighted the idea that Sauron and Galadriel have an inextricable bond, even when physically apart. The upcoming Season 2 will challenge this connection. He described their relationship as more than just spatial proximity, suggesting it’s deeply rooted in their mental states. “They’re higher beings,” he said, “so I imagine the bond runs much deeper than merely being in the same location. I think when she refuses him at the end of Season 1, it infuriates him significantly. It wouldn’t be truthful to say there isn’t a part of him that believes, ‘I can win her over, I can convince [her] to side with me.'”
GamesRadar+ managed to pose a question to co-showrunner Patrick McKay regarding Vickers’ portrayal of Galadriel and Sauron. To this, McKay responded with a casual remark, “That’s what Sauron might think,” and then elaborated further.
I mean that’s one of the places of real dramatic inquiry in season 2. Sauron perceives her as a threat, she obviously perceives him as a threat, but she’s empowered him, and he needed her to get to power, and that creates this really interesting dynamic between them. Season two, she’s on her back foot, she feels incredibly guilty. To earn back the respect of herself and her fellow Elves she’s going to have to prove that she can transcend past the version of herself that was vulnerable to his temptation and vulnerable to his deception.
The essential question is this: Since Sauron is in Eregion and Galadriel is attempting to thwart him here, both seem to be following separate paths. But as it’s only a matter of time before they inevitably intersect at the end of the season, we can’t wait for viewers to witness what unfolds! McKay shared this anticipation.
In an unexpected turn of events, quite a few gaps are now filled up. Recall that at the end of season 1 of “The Rings of Power”, Sauron was on his way into the core of Mordor. This new season has already hinted that Sauron would sport a blonde wig and spend time with the Elven blacksmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). However, it’s delightful to hear that he will indeed be in Eregion, an ancient Elven cultural center which no longer exists by the time of “The Lord of the Rings”.
As a passionate gamer, I can sense from McKay’s cryptic remarks that we’re likely not going to witness Galadriel and Sauron’s reunion until later in the season. It seems like that intriguing scene involving blades and a crown might unfold around that time. If the trailer is any indication, it promises to be quite an exhilarating spectacle!
We won’t have to wait long to find out what happens next! The second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will premiere with the first three episodes on August 29. After that, new episodes will air every Thursday night for the remaining seven weeks.
