Sarah Lancashire’s “delightful” British movie that’s “refreshingly original” is one to watch tonight

Sarah Lancashire is known for powerful, dramatic roles in shows like Happy Valley and Black Doves. However, the BBC has something new that showcases her talents in a completely different way.

Okay, so I recently watched this movie called Yesterday – it’s a rom-com directed by Danny Boyle. The main guy, Jack Malik, is played by Himesh Patel, who I recognized from EastEnders. The story is totally wild: he gets hit by a bus during a global blackout, and when he wakes up, nobody remembers The Beatles! Like, at all. It’s him and him alone who remembers their music, and he has to figure out what to do with that. It’s a really fun movie!

Jack faces a tough choice: he’s gained popularity playing Beatles songs, but presenting them as his own feels wrong. He soon discovers he’s not the only one with fond memories of the band, meeting Liz and Leo who are touched by his performances and grateful for the reminder of The Beatles’ music rather than concerned about originality.

You can now watch the entire series of Yesterday on BBC iPlayer. It premiered last night on BBC One and will be available on the streaming service for the next 29 days.

I’m so excited about Yesterday! Besides Patel, Lancashire, and Edwards, the movie also has Lily James and Joel Fry, and I even heard James Corden and Ed Sheeran make appearances, which is awesome!

Digital Spy rated Yesterday four stars, calling it a heartwarming and crowd-pleasing film. Their review noted that the movie will leave you feeling emotional and humming Beatles tunes long after you leave the theater.

The movie has been well-received by audiences, with viewers describing it as both “delightful” and “refreshingly original and entertaining.”

Danny Boyle had initially hoped to have Chris Martin from Coldplay in the movie, but ultimately chose Ed Sheeran.

I remembered telling Ed he was perfect for the job and our top pick – that we couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it. He surprised us by pointing out that we’d already asked Chris Martin!

He has a great sense of humor and doesn’t get offended by being teased – the movie definitely plays on that. He constantly joked about us preferring Chris Martin instead.

Yesterday is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
