Sam Thompson has finally shared his true feelings about Zara McDermott’s current boyfriend, Louis Tomlinson.
The radio presenter, 33, split from the TV personality, 29, in 2024 after five years together.
Zara publicly confirmed her relationship with the former One Direction singer last year, sharing photos of them together on Instagram after people had been speculating about their romance for weeks.
On Thursday morning, during his Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Sam shared his honest reaction to his ex dating the singer – something he discussed after a listener brought it up.
During the show, Sam opened up the floor to questions, and a listener named Holly immediately asked him a surprisingly difficult question, completely catching him off guard.
Holly playfully asked how it felt to perform One Direction’s ‘Steal My Girl,’ considering one of the band members had actually dated the person the song was about.
After a brief pause to collect himself, Sam exclaimed, “Holly, I’m on the air! How do I feel? Well, honestly, it’s a fantastic song – I still enjoy listening to it on my commute.”
He admitted it might sound strange, but he listens to it on the subway constantly. He doesn’t mind, though, as long as it makes others happy, and he’s generally a happy person himself.
It’s great to see everyone finding someone special, and I’ve met the guy she’s with – he seems really kind, which is wonderful. Honestly, it’s a perfect match! Everyone deserves to find love.
The Love Island alum started seeing Louis in March 2025, and after celebrating their first Christmas as a couple, they took a trip to the Caribbean.
Zara has reportedly moved in with Louis, a millionaire, at his home in north London. She briefly stayed with her parents after leaving the house she previously shared with her ex-boyfriend, Sam, in Fulham.
Okay, so last month was EVERYTHING! I was so thrilled to see Zara with Louis in Denmark – she’s seriously his biggest fan, traveling all the way with him for this leg of his world tour! It just proves how much she believes in him, and honestly, it warmed my heart to see them together.
Zara seemed moved as she posted a photo on Instagram of Louis performing songs from his latest album, ‘How Did I Get Here?’, at a concert in Copenhagen’s KB Hallen.
Zara added a string of emojis to the picture, which included red love hearts and crying emojis.
Louis began his tour in Hamburg, Germany, on March 23rd. He’s planned to perform across Europe and North America, and will finish the tour in Australia in October.
It appears Zara is accompanying him on his travels, following her admission on Instagram that she needs him in her life.
When a fan asked Zara what three things she absolutely needed in her life, she gave a direct answer.
She penned: ‘I’d have to say my family, my friends and my bf of course!!!’
