Sam Thompson reacts to THAT viral radio call about his ex Zara McDermott’s boyfriend Louis Tomlinson and says ‘I meant every word of it’

Sam Thompson has spoken out about his reaction to the widely circulated radio conversation concerning his former girlfriend, Zara McDermott, and her current partner, Louis Tomlinson.

The radio presenter, 33, split from TV personality Zara, 29, in 2024 after five years together.

Zara publicly confirmed she was dating the former One Direction singer a few months later, sharing a photo of them together on Instagram after people had been speculating about their relationship for weeks.

Just recently, while hosting his breakfast show on Hits Radio, Sam was caught off guard when a listener asked a pointed question: ‘How do you feel about playing One Direction’s ‘Steal My Girl,’ considering one of the band members actually did steal your girlfriend?’

Sam recently shared a particularly embarrassing story on his podcast, Staying Relevant, while chatting with his close friend Pete Wicks.

He described how much he enjoys hosting breakfast radio. He explained that when a listener clicks a link and calls in during a song, there’s only a brief, two-minute window to get through. If the producer approves their question, the listener then gets to be on air.

Someone – I think it was Holly – jokingly asked if there were any songs Sam didn’t enjoy playing on the radio, and that’s a pretty reasonable question.

He continued: ‘But then Holly comes on and asks a slightly different version of that question. 

‘I meant every word of it by the way. I feel like we can move on, it’s been enough time’.

Pete said he thought I dealt with the situation well, and that no one else cared about it except for Holly. He then privately told Holly, using strong language, that he was angry with her.

Pete added: ‘Call my f***ing radio station and see what answer you get’ 

Sam playfully alluded to the rumors about Pete and Olivia Attwood, implying everyone was eager to know if they were dating: ‘We’re all wondering the same thing.’

Even though Sam was asked a really tough question on the air, he remained professional and quickly regained his composure to respond.

He responded, saying, “Holly, I’m on the air right now! How do I feel? Well, honestly, it’s a fantastic song. I actually still listen to it on my commute.”

He admitted it might seem strange, but he listens to it on his commute regularly. He doesn’t mind it himself, as long as those around him are content.

It’s great to see everyone finding someone special, and I’ve actually met the guy my friend is with – he seems really kind and genuine, which is wonderful. It’s a really lovely match, and it’s heartwarming to see, because everyone deserves to find love.

The Love Island alum started seeing Louis in March 2025, and they celebrated their first Christmas together by taking a trip to the Caribbean.

Okay, so I’ve been following this closely and it’s confirmed – Zara’s actually moved in with Louis! Can you believe it? After everything with Sam, she went back to her parents’ place for a bit, which was so sad, especially after they shared that house in Fulham. But now? She’s at his place, a massive mansion up in north London! It’s just… amazing. I’m so happy for her, and honestly, that house is incredible. I’ve been stalking… I mean, following the story, and it’s all happening so fast!

Last month, Zara strongly supported Louis by joining him in Denmark for his world tour.

Zara seemed moved as she posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of Louis performing songs from his latest album, ‘How Did I Get Here?’, at a concert in Copenhagen’s KB Hallen.

Zara added a string of emojis to the picture, which included red love hearts and crying emojis.

Louis began his tour in Hamburg, Germany on March 23rd. He’s planning to perform across Europe and North America before finishing up in Australia in October.

It appears Zara is now traveling with him, following her admission on Instagram that she needs him in her life.

When a fan asked Zara what three things she absolutely needed in her life, she gave a direct answer.

She penned: ‘I’d have to say my family, my friends and my bf of course!!!’
