Sam Raimi’s new film, “Send Help,” has been praised for its suspenseful story and compelling characters. But fans have also noticed a recurring detail in his movies: a yellow 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88, which makes another appearance in this latest film. Raimi recently shared the personal story behind this car, explaining how it’s appeared in his work, including films like Spider-Man and Evil Dead.
Sam Raimi tells the story behind yellow car in Send Help and his other movies
During an interview with Cineatomy to discuss his movie ‘Send Help,’ Sam Raimi explained why he frequently features a yellow 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 in his films and how it’s become a signature element of his work.
The filmmaker, known for directing Spider-Man movies, said the car reminded him of his mother’s vehicle from when she lived in Detroit in the 1970s. He remembered thinking it was the perfect car to borrow when he was a kid making home movies.
Raimi explained that his mother gave him and his brother a car when they started college to help them get to school. Later, when he was making his first movie, The Evil Dead, he needed a car for a scene and the only one available was his mother’s. He asked if he could use it in the film, and she happily agreed.
He explained that after including the element in a sequel, he realized it had actually appeared in all of his previous films. Because of this, he started intentionally adding it to his movies, feeling it was a natural fit since it had always been a part of his work.
I just saw “Send Help” in theaters, and it’s really good! Sam Raimi not only directed it, but he also produced it alongside Zainab Azizi. The script was a collaborative effort by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. And get this – it’s getting amazing reviews! It’s currently sitting at a 93% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, plus the audience loves it with an 87% score. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something fresh.
The film stars Rachel McAdams, Dylan O’Brien, and Dennis Haysbert, along with Edyll Ismail, Xavier Samuel, Chris Pang, and a talented supporting cast.
