Animal rights organization PETA has criticized Sabrina Carpenter, calling her actions “stupid and cruel” after she included a live bird in her performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
During her performance of “Manchild” at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the 26-year-old American singer held a white dove in her hand, which sparked various reactions online.
Officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) also criticized the unusual decision, quoting the song Manchild in a statement shared on X.
Hey Sabrina, bringing a live bird to the Grammys is a bad idea – it’s unnecessary, disrupts the show, and, most importantly, harms the animal!
Birds are naturally frightened by bright lights, loud sounds, and being handled, as they’re meant to live freely in the open sky.
People are reacting to a rumor that Sabrina Carpenter brought a bird on stage during a performance, possibly at the 2026 Grammys. Many are criticizing the idea, calling it inappropriate and urging performers to not include animals in shows.
The organization also criticized Lady Gaga’s outfit during her performance of “Abracadabra” at the awards show, describing it as appearing to be made of feathers.
The authors stated that birds always experience pain, no matter if their feathers are removed while they’re alive or after they’ve been killed.
‘Lady Gaga, let birds keep their feathers. Feathers belong on birds and birds should be free.’
The organization praised pop star Cher for receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her long-standing commitment to animal rights advocacy.
A recent post on X celebrated Cher potentially receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys, highlighting her dedication to animal welfare. The post praised her efforts to help elephants in captivity and dogs in need, thanking her for using her influence to improve their lives.
A message also acknowledged Billie Eilish, praising her veganism and compassion for animals. It congratulated her on winning a Grammy for her song, ‘Wildflower’.
Our 2021 Person of the Year inspires through both their artistry and kindness, consistently championing veganism, cruelty-free fashion, and the well-being of animals.
The pop star was a standout performer and turned heads with her outfit: a revealing white bodysuit resembling a pilot’s uniform, complete with high-laced boots and a stylish cap.
Oh my gosh, it was Sabrina! She just owned the Grammys stage, you guys! She started by saying, ‘Hey Grammys, how ya doing? It’s your captain Sabrina speaking!’ and then, get this, she was like, ‘If you came here tonight needing a little boost, stand up and clap!’ It was SO her, just immediately connecting with everyone and making you feel seen. I swear, I almost jumped out of my seat!
The singer made a dramatic entrance by appearing from inside a moving baggage carousel, which was set up to look like an airport terminal labeled ‘Sabrina Carpenter Airlines’.
Carpenter’s new single, “Manchild,” taken from her 2025 album “Man’s Best Friend,” is a sharp and fun song that many think is about her short-lived, highly publicized relationship with actor Barry Keoghan.
The lyrics, which seemed to address emotional immaturity and confusing behavior, sparked a lot of rumors, particularly because the breakup happened so publicly.
She performed with a diverse group of backup dancers who were costumed as airline travelers and employees – the group even included an astronaut and a priest!
At the end of the performance, Carpenter theatrically pulled out a live dove.
Even though the performance seemed to be censored, it quickly became a major highlight of the event and everyone was talking about it.
X quickly filled with enthusiastic reactions from fans, who praised her for giving one of the most memorable performances at the Grammys.
One audience member shared, “I was hooked from beginning to end! Sabrina really knows how to deliver a fantastic performance.”
One X user shared their enthusiasm for Sabrina Carpenter’s performances, saying it’s clear she genuinely enjoys herself on stage, and they love seeing that.
‘SHE HAS THE WHOLE FLOOR STANDING UP,’ a third observed.
She performed at the Grammys for the second year in a row, following her first appearance last year when she was a nominee.
Sabrina Carpenter, whose album ‘Man’s Best Friend’ released in 2025 received six award nominations, is set to perform at the three-hour show alongside other popular artists.
