Ruth and Alex should have left Layton and Josie behind in Snowpiercer
As a dedicated fan who’s spent countless frozen nights huddled around my TV, binge-watching this icy thriller, I must say, I’ve never felt so cold after an episode of Snowpiercer before. Ruth and Alex, you two have made a decision that could freeze the last remnants of hope in New Eden!
In the finale of Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 4, Ruth and Alex found themselves faced with a crucial choice. Regrettably, they opted for the incorrect path.
Caution: This post contains major spoilers for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 4
When Layton entrusted Snowpiercer entirely to Ruth, he emphasized that some crucial decisions were now hers to make. In case Layton and Josie couldn’t be contacted by Ruth and Alex, they would have to decide whether to leave them behind or not. Layton expressed confidence in Ruth, believing she would choose wisely.
It turns out they were caught by Milius, where both Layton and Josie found themselves in his custody. Milius implied that they could only reunite with them if Big Alice docked. Faced with a tough decision, Ruth chose poorly.
It was always a trap for Big Alice in Snowpiercer
From the outset, it was evident that Milius coveted Big Alice. He didn’t require a baby for this purpose. Instead, he had larger plans in motion, and he found himself needing either Layton or Big Alice. This episode made it clear that his focus was solely on Big Alice.
It appears that their actions have benefited him significantly, as they’ve given him the upper hand and made it impossible to retrieve Big Alice. This predicament spells doom for everyone residing in New Eden, as there simply isn’t enough time left to save them.
Instead of turning back, it would have been wiser for Ruth to continue her journey. Initially, Layton and Josie might have been upset and demoralized, but in time they would have comprehended the situation—Josie sooner than Layton, naturally. Prioritizing the people of New Eden should have been Ruth’s priority. She could have made it back on the train in time for winter, thus ensuring the safety of the citizens of New Eden. Later, if necessary, a new plan could be devised to return for Layton and Josie.
If not intercepted by Layton’s Tailie team, it’s probable that Ruth is still somewhere aboard Big Alice, as they might have chosen to stay with Layton in the fight rather than leave him behind, and may not have been swayed by rational arguments.
Absolutely, if Alex and Ruth had chosen to turn back, they would have avoided the dramatic events unfolding in the last season of Snowpiercer.
