Rose Byrne hopes more people will watch her 2015 spy comedy, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Speaking at the 2026 BAFTAs, the actress said she considers the film a standout, yet underrated, part of her career.
When Magic Radio asked Mary Byrne about a favorite under-the-radar movie, she immediately chose Spy. She described it as a “fantastic comedy” directed by Paul Feig, starring Jason Statham, Jude Law, Melissa McCarthy, and herself, adding, “It is so funny!”
Byrne added that audiences are increasingly surprised and delighted by the film, often reacting with disbelief and saying, ‘This movie is funny?!’ He agreed, praising Melissa and Jason Statham’s comedic performances and describing the movie as simply enjoyable.
The 2015 comedy Spy features Melissa McCarthy as Susan Cooper, a quirky secret agent on a mission to find a stolen nuclear weapon. Rose Byrne plays Rayna Boyanov, the daughter of an arms dealer, and Jason Statham and Jude Law appear as fellow spies Rick Ford and Bradley Fine.
The comedy film Spy came out in June 2015 and earned more than $235 million globally. Critics loved it, giving it a ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% approval score.
Rose Byrne Wants a Sequel to Spy
Rose Byrne recently shared her love for the movie Spy again, this time on the BAFTAs red carpet. She previously told ET in October that she’s eager for a sequel, saying, “Let’s make it happen! I heard there were plans for one, but it never came together.”
Byrne shared his enthusiasm for the film, noting its growing popularity. He said people often tell him how much they enjoy it, describing it as a delightful and cherished movie.
I remember reading that Paul Feig actually started working on a Spy sequel back in 2015! He even said Jason Statham was definitely going to be back as Rick Ford, which was awesome. It’s so frustrating to hear that by 2019, the studio just didn’t seem interested anymore, especially since Paul had what he called a fantastic idea for how to continue the story. It really feels like a missed opportunity!
Rose Byrne Is Earning Accolades for Latest Role
Byrne was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 2026 for her role as a struggling mother in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She lost to Jessie Buckley, who won for Hamnet.
The actor is still up for two awards for their work in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. They’ve been nominated for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role at the Actor Awards, and another award at a separate ceremony. The first ceremony is on March 1st, and the second is on March 15th.
Spy is available to rent on PVOD platforms.
