With the release of Avengers: Doomsday less than a year away, fans are eagerly anticipating the introduction of Victor von Doom into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Concept art for a potential Avengers: Doomsday storyline depicts Robert Downey Jr. wearing Doctor Doom’s classic armor. Notably, the armor’s mask is removed, revealing a severely disfigured face – a particularly frightening detail taken directly from the comic books.
For weeks, rumors have been circulating about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, specifically how Marvel Studios plans to introduce Victor Von Doom with Robert Downey Jr. involved. While nothing is official, the word is that audiences won’t actually see Doctor Doom’s face in the film.
Instead, Avengers: Secret Wars will explore the consequences of Doctor Doom’s revealed past within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent theory suggests that Victor Von Doom was severely disfigured in the accident that killed his wife and son, resulting in lasting injuries and damage to his body.
Beyond being announced as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, very little is known about Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom. This storyline is a major development in The Multiverse Saga, which started with Kang as the primary villain.
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film will need to show Doctor Doom’s scarred face, since it’s a key part of who he is. The big question is how much of his backstory Marvel Studios will actually show, as their movies often change details from the comics.
