Robert Downey Jr. had a fanboy moment on the set of Avengers: Doomsday.
Even famous stars like Robert Downey Jr. get thrilled when they meet the actors they admire. He recently told Entertainment Weekly that he was especially excited to work with Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer – the performers who played his favorite X-Men characters.
Rebecca Romijn and Nicholas Hoult, known for playing Mystique and Beast in the early X-Men films, returned to those roles for the new movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. shared that seeing them back as these beloved characters was a highlight for the cast, and he personally got very enthusiastic – he even admitted to being a big fan in the moment.
Downey didn’t reveal much about Mystique and Beast’s roles in Avengers: Doomsday, but he did emphasize that having Rebecca Romijn and Hugh Grammer back in the film was a huge boost, elevating the entire experience and making their return feel special.
Both Romijn and Grammer played significant roles in the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand. Romijn later made a quick appearance in X-Men: First Class in 2011, and Grammer reprised his role as Beast in a scene after the credits of the 2023 Marvel movie, The Marvels.
Following the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Doomsday is the 39th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This large-scale event will unite heroes from across the MCU – including the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men – to battle the notorious Doctor Doom and protect the world.
