Robbie Williams is a monkey in first trailer for his biopic Better Man
As a lifelong fan of Robbie Williams and his extraordinary career, I am beyond excited for the release of “Better Man.” The trailer has not only whet my appetite for this biopic but also served a heaping helping of intrigue and anticipation.
The official trailer for the Robbie Williams biopic titled “Better Man” is out now, featuring the musician portrayed as a simian character.
In this very moment, I can’t help but notice the presence of our furry friend here. And let me clarify your curiosity right away; as if reading your mind, Robbie’s voiceover assures: “I sense your confusion: ‘Why the monkey?’
In a characteristically humble manner, he explains that the cause stems from him perceiving himself as “not as advanced” and expressing his authentic self, “the true Robbie Williams,” to others.
Alongside scenes of him playfully performing antics on stage (such as a reenactment of his iconic Knebworth concert with the well-known phrase “For the following two hours, you belong to me!”), there’s a large dance number set in Piccadilly Circus, a thrilling ride, a minivan that appears to journey through time, and an indifferent neighbor are also included.
Additionally, we catch a fleeting view of Steve Pemberton, known for his roles in shows like Inside No. 9, Benidorm, and The League of Gentlemen.
Additionally starring in the film is Alison Steadman, known for her roles in “Gavin & Stacey” and “Orphan Black”.
In 2021, director Michael Gracey of “The Greatest Showman” fame explained that the film “Better Man” aimed to differentiate itself from other musical biopics such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman”.
He shared with Deadline that this tale is extraordinary, yet he aims to portray it in a raw, authentic manner, transitioning from gritty realism to whimsical moments. Unlike some who seem destined for greatness due to innate talent, this narrative doesn’t follow the trajectory of the world recognizing their genius; instead, it presents a different journey.
Robbie is reminiscent of the ordinary man who dared to dream grandly and pursued those dreams, leading him to a remarkable destination. His tale, therefore, resonates deeply with many. He may not be the most exceptional singer or dancer, but he has managed to sell an astounding 80 million records globally.
Gracey went on to say: “He’s just like many others who don’t recognize their own unique talents, but what sets him apart is his determination, ambition, and belief in himself. He chose to chase after his dreams.
Better Man will be released in cinemas on December 26.
