After a three-year wait since the CW series ended in 2023, fans can look forward to new releases! Oni Press is publishing special editions of comics featuring Archie, Jughead, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Oni Press is releasing new editions of stories set in the Riverdale universe, revisiting their recent publishing run. The first, The New Riverdale, will be available in late September, followed by collections focusing on Sabrina and Jughead in October. These trade paperbacks will each cost $9.99 and contain five issues.
Archie, Jughead, and Sabrina Return for Oni Press’s New Riverdale Editions
A fresh take on the classic characters begins with the ‘New Riverdale’ era, brought to life by award-winning creators Mark Waid (known for Kingdom Come) and Fiona Staples (Saga). This series reimagines how Archie and his friends first connected, presented in full color. The Archie: New Riverdale Compact Edition TP collects the first six issues of Archie (2015) and will be available on September 29, 2026. More new stories are also on the way.
This preview offers a glimpse into the new reprint of the story. It introduces the Riverdale gang in a fresh way: Archie, the popular, guitar-playing teen; his quirky but insightful friend, Jughead; Betty, the friendly neighbor who’s also a mechanic; and Veronica, the fashionable and rebellious new student. They’ll navigate the challenges of high school – drama, relationships, and everything else – in this modern reimagining of Riverdale High!
Following the release of Archie’s new edition, Sabrina will get her own compact edition – Sabrina The Teenage Witch: New Riverdale Compact Edition TP – on October 13, 2026. Written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Andy Fish, the story is perfectly timed for the Halloween season.
Sabrina Spellman seems like a normal teen dealing with the usual challenges of school, family, and friends – especially as the new kid in town. But as her magical abilities grow, she inevitably finds herself in trouble, and unexpectedly becomes Greendale’s secret protector!
Finally, fans can look forward to the New Riverdale Compact Edition TP, starring Jughead and featuring a story by the creative team behind Captain America and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Erica Henderson. It will be available on October 27th.
Okay, so my buddy Jughead – he’s a super independent thinker and basically lives to eat and do what’s right – is going to war with the school. The principal is cracking down with a ton of new rules, and worse, they’re making the lunch menu ridiculously boring and healthy! It’s threatening the cafeteria, which is like, Jughead’s whole world, so he’s gotta do something about it.
Oni’s description highlights the story’s comedic nature, explaining that Jughead, driven to desperation by hunger, must rally his classmates to rescue their friends from a bland, healthy diet. The promise is a return to the glory days of burgers and lasagna!
Riverdale’s Shared Universe Includes Sabrina, Katy Keene & Pretty Little Liars
Oni Press bringing back its New Riverdale comic isn’t the most shocking thing to happen with this story. When The CW’s Riverdale TV show first came out in 2017, it received good reviews, but it quickly became known for its increasingly wild and unbelievable plots.
Originally a down-to-earth murder mystery, the CW’s Riverdale eventually expanded into a broader, interconnected universe. The most prominent link to this larger world is The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, as Sabrina’s hometown of Greendale was first featured in Riverdale‘s second season.
In 2020, the musical comedy-drama Katy Keene, based on the Archie Comics character, premiered but only lasted one season. Later, the 2022 reboot of Pretty Little Liars included connections to Riverdale, surprisingly revealing that both shows exist in the same fictional universe.
Oni Press’s New Riverdale Compact Editions launch this September and October.
