On Tuesday, Garlinghouse took to social media (because where else?) to advocate for some kind of unity among crypto communities. This came right after the news that Ripple has donated the “Skull of Satoshi” to the Bitcoin community. It’s now going to sit pretty at the Bitcoin Museum in Nashville. Because nothing says “we’re all in this together” like a giant skull, right?

“The Skull of Satoshi was originally built to call attention to blockchain energy usage, and today it’s a symbol and reminder of Bitcoin’s incredible staying power to many around the world (including me!).” Wow, thanks for the reminder, Brad! 🙄

This 11-foot-tall monstrosity was crafted by Canadian artist Benjamin Von Wong, in cahoots with Greenpeace USA. Unveiled in March 2023, it was part of the “Change the Code, Not the Climate” campaign. You know, the one that highlights how bitcoin mining is basically a power-hungry monster? Built from discarded electronics, it features red laser eyes and smokestacks. Because nothing screams “eco-friendly” like a giant skull with laser eyes! 🔥

Despite its critical origins, the Bitcoin community decided to embrace this artwork, turning it into a symbol of Bitcoin’s strength. Von Wong later admitted that his initial take on Bitcoin’s environmental issues was a bit “overly simplistic.” You think? 🤷‍♂️

In his post, Garlinghouse stressed the need for collaboration across blockchain projects: “As crypto and blockchain technologies become widely used, respected and understood – it’s past time that we set aside our differences and work together to move the industry forward.” Sure, Brad, let’s all hold hands and sing Kumbaya! 🎶
