So, Ripple just decided to hand over the āSkull of Satoshiā to the Bitcoin folks. CEO Brad Garlinghouse claims that BTC and XRP āhave more in common than we think.ā Really? More in common? Like what, a penchant for volatility? š
Rippleās Skull Message: BTC and XRP Have More in Common Than You Think
On Tuesday, Garlinghouse took to social media (because where else?) to advocate for some kind of unity among crypto communities. This came right after the news that Ripple has donated the āSkull of Satoshiā to the Bitcoin community. Itās now going to sit pretty at the Bitcoin Museum in Nashville. Because nothing says āweāre all in this togetherā like a giant skull, right?
āThe Skull of Satoshi was originally built to call attention to blockchain energy usage, and today itās a symbol and reminder of Bitcoinās incredible staying power to many around the world (including me!).ā Wow, thanks for the reminder, Brad! š
This 11-foot-tall monstrosity was crafted by Canadian artist Benjamin Von Wong, in cahoots with Greenpeace USA. Unveiled in March 2023, it was part of the āChange the Code, Not the Climateā campaign. You know, the one that highlights how bitcoin mining is basically a power-hungry monster? Built from discarded electronics, it features red laser eyes and smokestacks. Because nothing screams āeco-friendlyā like a giant skull with laser eyes! š„
Despite its critical origins, the Bitcoin community decided to embrace this artwork, turning it into a symbol of Bitcoinās strength. Von Wong later admitted that his initial take on Bitcoinās environmental issues was a bit āoverly simplistic.ā You think? š¤·āāļø
In his post, Garlinghouse stressed the need for collaboration across blockchain projects: āAs crypto and blockchain technologies become widely used, respected and understood ā itās past time that we set aside our differences and work together to move the industry forward.ā Sure, Brad, letās all hold hands and sing Kumbaya! š¶
āI hope this gesture continues to remind folks that we ( BTC, XRP, and other crypto communities) have more in common than we think.ā Right, like a shared love for market crashes! š
The Bitcoin Conference confirmed the donation, posting on X: āSpecial guest at Bitcoin 2025 ā the Skull of Satoshi, donated by Ripple to the Bitcoin community. The Skull will now have a permanent home at the Bitcoin Museum in Nashville.ā Because nothing says āwelcomeā like a giant skull! š
