Ripple Prime aims to be a leader in the evolving world of finance, which some are calling “Wall Street 2.0.” Even though the cryptocurrency market is currently struggling, more and more traditional financial institutions are starting to use digital assets and blockchain technology.

In a recent interview with *Markets Media*, Michael Higgins, CEO of Ripple Prime, explained that despite the current downturn in the crypto market, he doesn’t see it as a long-term problem for digital assets. He believes markets are heading towards constant, round-the-clock trading and require reliable blockchain technology to support this shift – which he calls “Wall Street 2.0” – and positions Ripple Prime as a leader in building that infrastructure.

Ripple Prime grew quickly after Ripple bought Hidden Road for $1.25 billion in October 2025.

Ripple Prime has seen its revenue triple in the past year, thanks to the financial strength of Ripple. This growth is driven by strong interest from institutions needing comprehensive clearing and financing solutions for a variety of assets, including currencies, digital assets, and financial contracts like derivatives and fixed income.

Ripple Prime has secured $200 million in funding from Neuberger Specialty Finance. This new financial resource will enable Ripple Prime to offer more margin financing to its institutional clients, particularly those bridging traditional finance with the world of digital assets.

One of the biggest drivers behind the evolution of Wall Street – often called “Wall Street 2.0” – is the shift from old-fashioned payment systems to newer ones built on blockchain technology. Currently, traditional prime brokerage requires institutions to put up collateral only when banks are open, which means they need to hold a lot of extra capital over weekends and holidays.

Ripple Prime simplifies transactions by constantly managing collateral around the clock. It uses RLUSD, a stablecoin issued by Ripple that’s fully backed by U.S. dollars and operates under strict regulatory oversight.

Although traditional Wall Street firms plan to offer digital prime brokerage services when the rules become clearer, industry expert Higgins thinks they’ll struggle with the technology needed to compete. He points out that today’s biggest players in stock and currency trading aren’t banks – they’re tech-focused companies.

Ripple Prime uses a new and connected system that handles all types of trading venues – including digital assets, foreign exchange, and traditional stocks – in the same way. This makes it much more flexible and quicker to respond to changes compared to older systems.
