Ripple Defies Gensler’s SEC—Renaissance Fools, Crypto Duels, & Policy Shtick!
Ah, dear audience, let us retire our wigs and don our thinking caps, for Ripple hath unleashed yet another didactic morsel entitled “Crypto in One Minute.” 🤏 In this theatrical vignette, the illustrious Lauren Belive, Global Co-Head of Policy (a title so grand, even Molière’s Dom Juan would blush), declaims upon the art of lobbying regulators—be they in the land of fast food and baseball or further afield where bureaucracy knows no sunset!
She waxes philosophical: “’Tis nobler to bandy words with regulators, than to lurk in anonymity,” quoth she (well, more or less, but let us not trifle with details). Without such gallant engagement, the “smart, responsible framework for crypto innovation”—that fabled unicorn—shall remain forever mythical. 🦄
Showing up matters.
In one minute, @BeliveLauren, Ripple’s Global Co-Head of Policy, reveals why pestering, cajoling, and serving tea to regulators in the noble halls of Washington D.C. (and elsewhere) is the secret recipe for conjuring sensible crypto laws.

Ripple’s Duel with the SEC: A Farce in Several Acts
Belive, nimble as a court jester, quotes that sage scripture The West Wing: “Decisions are made by those who show up.” (A sentiment most familiar to anyone who’s ever been forced to family board game night.) And show up Ripple did! Picture it, dear reader: The year was 2024, the Biden administration presiding, and Ripple locking horns with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—a legal comedy unfolding with more sequels than Les Précieuses ridicules.
Presiding over the SEC’s theatre of enforcement was Monsieur Gary Gensler, who clearly delights in “enforcement actions” the way Harpagon adores his coin purse. He continued a lawsuit begun by his predecessor, Jay Clayton, who, with great dramatic flair, filed suit on his very last day—as one does, to leave a lasting impression at the office potluck.
But lo and behold—mon dieu!—after countless acts and asides, the great Ripple-SEC saga ended not in tragedy but in a settlement. Gensler’s curtain fell, a new, “pro-crypto” chairman Paul S. Atkins took the stage, and much bowing and handshaking ensued. At last, the audience could rise for intermission!
Ripple’s Campaigns: More Drama Than the Royal Court
Wherefore this persistence, you ask? Ripple, ever the ambitious suitor, horizontal-curtsied to both sides of the American political aisle, seeking the favor of lords and ladies—Republican, Democrat, and those who cannot quite recall which they are before coffee. Belive herself recounts their exploits:
“We went to the DNC. We invested in the RNC. There was campaigning, applause, several mysterious canapés.”
Forsooth, even at Trump’s inauguration and the inaugural White House Crypto Summit, Ripple was there; perhaps hiding behind a potted plant, but most assuredly in attendance. 🤵🍾
Now, with Congress apparently charmed to their side (or at least to their hors d’oeuvres), Ripple endeavors to help pen laws as fair as Dorine’s wit and as clear as Orgon’s confusion. “The future is flush with promise,” as Belive might say—provided one enjoys a healthy dash of farce with their finance. 🥳
