Riot Games bans Setsuko over conflicts with TFT Brazilian community

As a seasoned gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless esports personalities, I must say I’m not surprised by Riot Games‘ decision to ban Setsuko from official TFT events for two months. His history of controversial comments and behavior has been well-documented, and it seems that he hasn’t learned his lesson yet.

The popular TFT player has been banned from competing for the next two months.

Recently, the well-known Teamfight Tactics (TFT) competitor, Kevin “Setsuko”, has been barred by Riot Games for a duration of two months from taking part in any official TFT tournaments. This ban was made public by Riot Games on September 12, 2024.

TFT competitor, Setsuko, banned from future events

In a recent note posted online, Riot Games announced the official ban of TFT competitor, Setsuko. The note exclaimed that the player had violated three Code of Conduct rules within the TFT Competitive Rulebook.

This set of guidelines encompassed instances of disrespectful behavior such as bias, belittling comments, offensive or damaging speech, and the unauthorized disclosure of private information.

Riot stated the exact reasons for Setsuko’s two-month ban.

In their online statement regarding the ban, Riot Games mentioned that when deciding on the appropriate penalty, they considered that Setsuko had already been penalized in July 2024 for violating Article 9.1.11 of America’s TFT Magic n’ Mayhem Rulebook.

Setsuko has a history of openly criticizing Brazilian TFT players, and there are numerous instances where she has used offensive language towards them.

In light of her recent disciplinary history, Riot Games views this as a factor that makes the situation with Setsuko more severe.

So, which rules did he break?

Rules broken by Setsuko

Riot Games detailed the specific infractions committed by Setsuko, as outlined and explained in the subsequent sections of their announcement to the TFT community.

  • Article 3.21 (Confidential Information) of the Global Code of Conduct for sharing previous correspondence from Riot Games on X (formally Twitter) despite the express confidentiality notice.
  • Article 3.8 (Derogatory or Defamatory Statements) of the Global Code of Conduct and Article 6.2.5 (Discrimination and Denigration) of the Americas TFT Esports Magic n’ Mayhem Rulebook for use of discriminatory and denigrating language on stream.

Was 2 months a long enough ban?

There’s debate about whether the two-month suspension is sufficient for the player given his history of actions that have negatively affected other competitors. In their latest communication, Riot Games mentioned that the player displayed minimal regret when confronted about his behavior.

Setsuko boasts a substantial online fanbase, particularly on his Twitch channel. Regardless of their nature – be it positive or negative – his comments carry weight. Prominent figures in esports should aim to cast a favorable glow on the gaming community.

Currently, the competitor’s suspension is set to end in November 2024. However, it may extend beyond this date if the player persists in breaking any rules or codes of conduct.

Setsuko responds to his ban on Twitter

The competitor took to Twitter to post about his recent ban, proving that he has yet to change or show any remorse for his actions.

As a fan, “I was temporarily restricted from streaming a set, but I’m planning to continue solo queue streaming,” said Setsuko on Twitter. “Apologies for the oversight. Next time, I’ll just be more obvious about power-sharing in Worlds and accept the fine instead.

Afterward, he ended the tweet with a laugh emoji, once more indicating that he doesn’t intend to accept accountability for his actions.
