While performing at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday, Riley Green was hit in the ear by a phone thrown from the audience and required stitches.
On Sunday, the 37-year-old singer shared a photo on their Instagram Stories showing the damage from a scary incident.
After receiving treatment for his head injury, Green shared a photo of the wound and wrote, ‘5 stitches later… all patched up.’
Immediately after answering the phone, the artist from Jacksonville, Alabama, began to bleed from his neck.
Riley Green, who has 2.9 million Instagram followers as @rileyduckman, received help from his team after a dangerous situation caused a temporary halt to the concert.
Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Green for further comment on the story.
After someone hit him with a phone, the lead singer of The Worst Way put down his guitar and asked for the lights to be turned on. He then asked security to remove the person who threw the phone from the venue.
Despite what happened, Green remained composed and continued the show, even laughing as he recovered.
Looking at his wounds, he jokingly asked if he was bleeding, then proudly showed off his toughness. He also thanked the fans for coming to the event that night.
The singer, known for ‘Don’t Mind If I Do,’ kept performing, asking the audience if they could use their phone flashlights, but politely requesting they not throw their phones on stage.
You know, the energy at the end of the show was incredible! Al Green closed everything out with ‘Dixieland Delight,’ and it was so special to see all the other artists come on stage to perform it with him. It really felt like a true celebration of music and community.
The musician known for “Change My Mind” was playing the second of two sold-out shows at the venue as part of his Australian tour, called “Cowboy As It Gets.”
Green will be performing in Australia on March 16th and 17th at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. He’s then heading to North America next month to continue his tour.
Al Green’s album, Don’t Mind If I Do, came out on October 18, 2024. Last year, the song ‘Worst Way’ from the album gave him his first number one hit as a solo artist.
He won Single of the Year at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards for his duet with Ella Langley, “You Look Like You Love Me.”
Several performers, like Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, Drake, Harry Styles, Zach Bryan, and Kelsea Ballerini, have also been struck by objects thrown from the audience during their concerts.
During a concert in Manhattan in June 2023, Bebe Rexha was struck in the face by a thrown phone, causing a cut above her eye that required stitches.
In November 2024, while performing at the Tacoma Dome, Bryan was struck by an object thrown onto the stage, hitting one of the performers. He then asked the audience to help identify who threw it.
