Jane Fallon shared an update on her health on Thursday after being diagnosed with breast cancer, detailing the results of her second surgery.
The 65-year-old author, who has been with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than 40 years, shared in March that she received a cancer diagnosis after a regular mammogram. She’s been sharing updates with her followers online since then.
Earlier this month, Jane shared encouraging news after her first surgery. Surgeons were able to remove the tumor and surrounding healthy tissue, and they believe they successfully removed all of it.
She shared some positive news on Instagram this week, saying her second surgery was successful. Doctors were able to remove all the affected tissue, which is a great result.
Doctors found a small, new area of potentially cancerous cells near where they recently removed tissue. However, they all agree that another surgery isn’t necessary at this time.
‘A huge % of pre cancer doesn’t develop into cancer.
I met with my oncologist today, and we both decided that the potential downsides of radiation treatment are greater than the potential benefits for me. That leaves me with the option of taking Tamoxifen or a similar medication, or choosing to monitor my condition and see how it progresses – which is what I’d prefer.
I’m hesitant about medication because I’m aware of the potentially severe side effects, but I’m carefully considering all the information. Fortunately, I don’t feel rushed to decide, which is good. I’m just hoping to feel like myself again soon.
This news follows a recent incident where Jane publicly condemned a fabricated obituary posted on X after her breast cancer diagnosis, calling it ‘disgusting’.
Jane expressed her upset about AI-generated images that falsely announced her death, which were spreading online.
She removed a post on X about an obituary, explaining she didn’t want anyone to assume she was bothered by it.
I’m definitely frustrated, but what bothers me most is that any hospital photos you see of me – ones where I look upset or have medical tubes – are completely fake. They were created using AI.
Jane received a lot of supportive messages, and someone explained that the initial post claiming her death – which looked like an obituary – was first shared by a fan page dedicated to Ricky.
I reported a truly awful page and its recent post. It pretends to be a fan of a particular game and claims to support animal welfare, but it’s posting falsely accusing and deeply offensive AI-generated content. No one should have to encounter such material.
Before becoming a bestselling author with her 2007 book, Getting Rid Of Matthew, Jane worked in television.
She has since published 14 books, including popular titles like Worst. Idea. Ever, Faking Friends, Just Got Real, and Queen Bee.
Jane, who was born in Harrow, started dating comedian Ricky in 1982. They met while they were both students at University College London.
The couple started living together in 1984 and now live in Hampstead, west London, with their pets.
Jane recently shared on Instagram that she’s been diagnosed with something, explaining to her followers why she hadn’t been very active on the platform lately.
She shared that she recently received a breast cancer diagnosis about a month ago, but thankfully it was caught very early and doctors are optimistic about her recovery.
I had a routine mammogram just before Christmas. I wasn’t experiencing any symptoms, but the radiographer noticed something unusual and sent me for more tests, ultimately leading to a biopsy.
I’ve had several more tests since then, including mammograms, biopsies, and an MRI, to help doctors find the exact location of the issue. It’s been quite a process, and honestly, it’s been difficult.
She also mentioned her surgery was scheduled for the week after next and expressed a desire to just have it done with as soon as possible.
She said she’s receiving excellent care and expects to be okay, but she’s mostly just listening to audiobooks and doing puzzles to pass the time. Dr. Eric is the doctor on call, and Nurse Pickle is looking forward to her lunch break.
