Ricky Gervais’ partner Jane Fallon announces she is undergoing another operation amid cancer battle – after hitting out at ‘disgusting’ fake obituary

Jane Fallon revealed she is undergoing another operation amid her cancer battle.

The 65-year-old author, who has been with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than 40 years, posted a picture on Instagram Monday showing her feet in compression socks. These socks are often worn after surgery to help prevent blood clots.

She shared a photo with the caption, ‘Wearing my pop socks again – send good vibes!’, and received well wishes from many followers, including Emma Willis and Roisin Conaty.

Jane shared in March that she received a diagnosis of the illness after a regular mammogram, and has been sharing updates with her followers online since then.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m still reeling! Jane just gave us the BEST news! After her surgery – they took out the tumor and a bit of healthy tissue just to be safe – she said the surgeons got practically everything! I’m so relieved and happy for her, it’s amazing!

The doctor cleared me to start lifting weights, so I’m beginning with something light – my cat! Just wanted to share a quick update: my check-up yesterday went well, and they confirmed they were able to remove everything.

The surgery didn’t leave enough clear space around the affected area, so I’ll need another operation to fix it.

We need to double-check that everyone receives everything they’re entitled to, which requires a little extra effort, but it’s not a major concern. They simply need to maintain a comfortable buffer, and the process will be identical to what we did previously.

This news follows Jane’s recent condemnation of a fabricated obituary that circulated on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, shortly after she announced her breast cancer diagnosis.

Following her surgery and a public statement that doctors had removed most of the problem, Jane has spoken out about AI-generated images. This came after false reports of her death began spreading online.

She removed a post on X about an obituary because she didn’t want anyone to assume she was bothered by it.

I’m frustrated, definitely. But mostly, I want everyone to know that any hospital photos you see of me – ones that show me looking sad or with medical tubes – are completely fake. They were created using AI.

Jane received a lot of supportive messages, and someone pointed out that the initial post about her ‘obituary’ came from a fan page dedicated to Ricky.

I reported a truly awful page and its recent post. It pretends to be a fan of racing greyhounds and claims to care about animal welfare, but the content it shares – particularly the AI-generated images – is completely false, harmful, and deeply offensive. No one should have to see this kind of material.

Before becoming a bestselling author with her 2007 book, Getting Rid Of Matthew, Jane worked in television.

She’s published 14 books since then, including popular titles like Worst. Idea. Ever, Faking Friends, Just Got Real, and Queen Bee.

Jane, who was born in Harrow, started dating comedian Ricky in 1982. They met while they were both students at University College London.

The couple started living together in 1984 and now live in Hampstead, west London, with their pets.
