Richard Osman is leaving his role as host of the BBC Two quiz show House of Games after nine years. He shared on his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, that he’s stepping down to dedicate more time to writing his Thursday Murder Club novels.
I’m stepping down from House of Games,” he announced. “The show won’t be called Richard Osman’s House of Games anymore; someone else will be hosting. I’m happy to pass the show on to them.”
I just wanted to make it clear how much I genuinely enjoyed my time on the show – I really did! And yeah, I ended up doing a whopping 800 episodes, which is crazy when I think about it.

He confirmed the show would go on, explaining that the same production team would continue working on it, but with a new host.
Osman has just one week of filming left. After that, someone new will take over as the host.
He said he’s really enjoyed the experience and will be sad when it ends, but he feels it’s a necessary step, much like when he left Pointless.

Tamara Gilder, joint managing director at Remarkable Entertainment, shared a statement about Richard Osman leaving the show. She expressed immense gratitude for his nine seasons as host, saying they will greatly miss him. Gilder also mentioned that House of Games is a very popular show and that they have some exciting new developments planned, which they will announce shortly.
Osman announced that after nine wonderful years, he’s stepping down as host of House of Games. He praised the show’s team and expressed his excitement for the new host to take over.
