As I delve into Gillian Anderson’s captivating journey, I find myself utterly inspired by her transformative evolution. Her career, spanning over three decades, is nothing short of remarkable, and it’s her personal experiences that truly set her apart.

Gillian Anderson shares secret desires in her new work, titled “Want” – a collection of confidential letters from women expressing their sexual longings anonymously

In a refreshingly candid manner, the 56-year-old actress appears to embody her bold, sex-positive character from Sex Education, as she explores various female fantasies in her book and openly expresses her ease in discussing intimate topics

Drawing inspiration from Nancy Friday’s seminal work, “My Secret Garden,” published in 1973, this book collects confidential correspondence from various women, disclosing their most intimate desires, including one that involves the renowned figure, Harry Styles

Before the book comes out on Thursday, Gillian openly admitted that there’s a fantasy involving the Watermelon Sugar High artist, where the relationship is intensely passionate, sensual, and quite steamy

Another fantasy involves an individual prohibited from getting married within a church setting, owing to their adherence to Orthodox faith

Therefore their fantasy is about getting intimate on an altar in an abandoned church.

Fostering an environment that empowers women to express themselves truthfully without reservation, this may encompass sexual fantasies involving strangers as well as an attraction towards the concept of voyeurism

Gillian shared: “I found it fascinating to see the women’s delight and pleasure in writing, and it appeared they gained a deeper self-understanding as a result.”

‘Ultimately, this is not my book. This is the book of every woman who contributed.’

While Want includes the fantasies of 174 anonymous women, Gillian has also slotted in her own.

Despite being named the world’s sexiest woman in 1996, The X-Files actress found it challenging to articulate her personal sexual fantasies verbally for the book

She also revealed she received 1,800 anonymous submissions from women around the world and has categorised the chosen submissions into 13 chapters including ‘To Be Worshipped’, ‘Exploration’, ‘Power and Submission’ and ‘The Watchers and the Watched’.

Contributors chose themselves and remained anonymous, sharing solely their sexual identity, age, and income, along with their relationship status

Gillian additionally motivates, especially younger audiences, to explore her book since it offers an illuminating perspective on various forms of sexuality beyond the prism of the adult entertainment industry

She added that the book focuses on tenderness, romance, and women wanting to be seen for themselves.

Other women expressed difficulty discerning the distinction between personal desires and fantasies influenced by the portrayals in the adult entertainment industry

One fantasy reads: ‘I found it so difficult to understand what truly my own fantasies are. So much of what is played out in porn is geared towards men, and so many expectations set on us as women, that I have a very difficult time navigating what really turns me on versus how I feel I should perform.’

Last month, the celebrity confessed to The Guardian that it seemed almost unreal to be named the world’s sexiest woman in 1996, considering there was a significant discrepancy between her glamorous image on pin-up magazine covers and her everyday life, which included balancing work and motherhood duties

She said: ‘It felt so preposterous to me.

Given a glimpse into my daily routine, filled with work, practice sessions, children, commuting, drop-offs, and pick-ups, it’s no surprise that such images would portray my life as being quite… hectic

‘It’s just part of the fantasy. It doesn’t feel like it represents me at all.’

Gillian, who was in a relationship with Peter Morgan for four years, mentioned that the project is designed to foster unity and promote self-acceptance among women, as well as increase openness and mutual understanding, even though there are cultural norms that persistently linger which may hinder these ideals

In her retrospective thoughts, Gillian acknowledged that playing the bold and self-assured Detective Sergeant Stella Gibson in The Fall significantly boosted her confidence to embrace her sexual strength during her forties

She mentioned that it’s only within the past three to four years she’s felt confident enough with herself to show more of that particular side of her

At the age of 60, Gillian has acknowledged that she’s stepping into a fresh phase in her life, not just professionally, but also on a personal level

The mother of three shared that she’s endeavoring to demonstrate to women across the globe that there’s no time limit on beginning something fresh

As a seasoned city dweller residing in the heart of London, I share my days with my two vibrant teenagers, Oscar and Felix – offspring from my past relationship with Mark Griffiths

Apart from being a mother to her grown-up daughter, Piper, she conceived her during her twenties while married to her first spouse, Clydia Klotz (an art director), whom she met on the set of The X-Files
