Holliday Grainger is back as Rachel Carey in the third season of the BBC thriller The Capture. This season, Rachel faces a shocking terrorist attack and a dangerous international situation.
The new trailer reveals Rachel taking charge of the Counter Terrorism Command as Acting Commander in season 3.
Following a shooting in central London, Rachel discovers she’s the sole witness to the attacker’s face. When video of the incident is made public, she’s shocked to find she doesn’t recognize the man, leading her to believe the footage has been secretly changed using Correction – a hidden manipulation program revealed in earlier seasons.

After earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes for its second season, Ben Chanan’s series is back on BBC One and iPlayer starting March 8th. New episodes will be released every Sunday.
I’m so excited for the new season of The Capture! The trailer just dropped, and we get a first glimpse of the amazing Indira Varma (from Game of Thrones) who’s playing Khadija Khan, and Paapa Essiedu as MP Isaac Turner. They both look like they’re going to be fantastic additions to the cast.

Rachel explains in a recent interview with Newsnight‘s Khadija that a question they considered years ago is now even more pressing.
“How do we sort fact from fiction? How can we believe what we see?” she continues.
Isaac believes hiring Rachel as head of CTD is the best way to improve the department’s reputation. Rachel is confident that Operation Veritas, a new system designed to instantly identify deepfakes, will help rebuild public trust in these institutions.
However, the shooting throws everything off course, and Rachel becomes determined to uncover the truth and identify the attacker.
Rachel suddenly realized the attack was specifically aimed at her, and she wondered why she seemed to be the only witness, leading her to believe it had been carefully planned. “Why did only I see him?” she thought.

In one part of the story, she has a difficult conversation with Frank Napier (Ron Perlman) from the CIA, who needs her to do something for him.
“Why would I help you out?” Rachel asked. Frank responded, “So you’ll owe me one. You might need a favor from someone like me in the future.”
Meanwhile, Rachel confronts Commander Danny Hart, played by Ben Miles, who assures her she’ll find out which side he’s on eventually.

The cast for Season 3 includes Tessa Wong as DC Chloe Tan, Lia Williams as Gemma Garland, Ginny Holder as DI Nadia Latif, Nigel Lindsay as DCI Tom Kendricks, and Daisy Waterstone as Abigail.
This season’s cast also includes Hugh Quarshie as Commissioner Cameron Yates, along with Andrew Buchan (known from Broadchurch), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones), Killian Scott (Kaos), and Jonathan Aris (Good Omens).
The official synopsis for season 3 of The Capture teases lies have become “daily currency”.
Man, it’s getting seriously tough to know what’s real anymore. I keep thinking about how do you even defend the truth when everyone’s just throwing around lies? And these deepfakes? Forget about it – how can you trust anything you see now?
A year ago, Rachel Carey revealed a secret UK intelligence program called Correction by broadcasting a realistic, but fake, video of a government minister. This exposed the program’s use of video manipulation.

While under investigation for improper use of a police tool, Carey has been appointed Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism. She’s committed to rebuilding public confidence in surveillance technology with the launch of the new Operation Veritas camera system.
Then, suddenly, a shockingly well-planned terrorist attack strikes at the center of British power, leaving only a single survivor.
As Carey digs further into the case, she uncovers a growing international crisis that seems to have taken hold within Britain’s government, intelligence agencies, and news outlets. The conspiracy goes very high up, but the question remains: who is really in control?
I’m seriously worried about Carey! Things are getting so dangerous, and it feels like everyone’s turning on her. I’m really wondering just how far she’ll go, and what she’ll have to give up, to survive this.
The Capture season 3 returns on 8 March on BBC One and iPlayer.
The new season starts with the first episode available to stream on BBC iPlayer at 6am, and will also be shown on BBC One at 9pm. New episodes will be released weekly. You can watch the first two seasons on iPlayer right now.
