Rebel Wilson wins ‘worst actress of 2025’ at the notorious Golden Raspberry Awards

Rebel Wilson has won the ‘worst actress of 2025’ gong at the Golden Raspberry Awards.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, or ‘Razzies’, are a playful parody of the Oscars, highlighting the worst movies and performances of the year.

Wilson, age 46, accepted an award for her performance as a mischievous spy in the comedy Bride Hard, despite the film’s poor performance at the box office.

Okay, so the Golden Raspberry Awards – you know, the Razzies – have announced Kristen Wiig as their ‘winner’ for her role in an action movie. Apparently, the committee felt her performance as an action hero just didn’t quite ring true. It’s always a bit awkward when they announce the winners, but hey, everyone has a bad movie now and then!

Anna Chlumsky, who acted with Rebel, was nominated for a Razzie Award as worst supporting actress. Her Bride Hard co-star, Stephen Dorff, was nominated for worst supporting actor.

Natalie Portman (Fountain of Youth), Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Section 31), Ariana DeBose (Love Hurts), and Milla Jovovich (In the Lost Lands) were also nominated for worst actress.

The Razzies ceremony also mentioned War of the Worlds.

The sci-fi movie flopped at the box office and was heavily criticized, even winning five awards for being particularly bad – including one for Ice Cube as worst actor.

The film War of the Worlds received three Razzie Awards, for worst director, worst screenplay, and worst remake/sequel.

Kate Hudson received the Razzie Redeemer Award, which recognizes a standout performance in a generally poor film, for her work in Song Sung Blue.

Established in 1981, the Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) have over 1,000 members across more than 20 countries, and winners are chosen by an online vote, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The 2025 film, Rebel’s Bride Hard, wasn’t successful in theaters and has received very negative reviews, earning only a 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 50 reviews.

When ‘Bride Hard’ was released in the US last June, the Washington Post dismissed it with a harsh review, saying it wasn’t even good enough to be shown on an airplane.

The Straits Times declared that the film’s awkward title was enough to ruin it, while IndieWire was even harsher, calling ‘Bride Hard’ unfunny and saying it felt like a painful experience from beginning to end – worse than a poorly delivered wedding speech.

Bride Hard hit Australian cinemas last August, and the reaction from critics was less than stellar.

This action-comedy is often described as a mix of Die Hard and Bridesmaids. The story centers around a group of mercenaries whose hostage situation at a wedding quickly spirals out of control.

Little do they know that the maid of honour, played by Rebel, is actually a secret agent.

Writing for PerthNow, critic Ben O’Shea did not pull any punches in his scathing assessment.

Honestly, as a film fan, the thought of rewatching ‘Bride Hard’ fills me with dread. The reviewer put it perfectly – I’d genuinely rather endure almost anything else. They even joked they’d prefer waxing Donald Trump or diving into Perth’s sewers to sit through that movie again, and honestly? I get it. It’s that bad.

He didn’t stop there, arguing it could be the worst film he’s ever seen.

Ben said Rebel Wilson’s new movie is terrible – so much so that he thinks it’s a strong contender for the worst film of the year, and possibly the worst he’s ever watched.

IMDb rates the comedy at a lacklustre 4.3 out of 10.
