Mary Cosby, star of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” has tragically lost her son, Robert Cosby Jr. He was 23 years old and passed away Monday night.
Mary Cosby shared the sad news of her son Robert Cosby Jr.’s passing on Instagram Wednesday, stating he had died and was now with God.
It’s with a heavy heart that I share this, but I find some peace knowing he’s finally at rest, as Mary Cosby expressed. I’m so thankful for all the prayers being sent our way, and we’re leaning on our faith to get through this difficult time.
Salt Lake City police first received a call about a possible overdose, but the situation quickly evolved into a death investigation, according to Sergeant Greg Wilking, a public information officer with the department. The medical examiner is now working to determine how the person died.
Bravo, the network that airs the hit “Real Housewives” franchise, also released a statement.
We were deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Mary’s son, Robert Jr. Mary is a much-loved part of our family, and we send her and her family our heartfelt sympathy during this very challenging time.

Katherine Short, the 42-year-old daughter of actor and comedian Martin Short, who worked as a social worker in Los Angeles, has passed away.
In recent seasons of the reality show, a major focus was on Cosby Jr.’s struggles with his mental health and substance abuse. Before he passed away, he had several legal issues, including a two-month jail sentence he recently completed with early release.
On season five of the show, Mary Cosby lovingly described her son as exceptionally driven and gifted. She shared that once he decided to pursue something, he’d accomplish it, and considered him a cherished and highly intelligent child.
Mary Cosby explained she was trying to get in touch with her son, Robert. During the show, they had a long conversation about his struggles with drug addiction.
I was so heartbroken to hear that he started using drugs like Xanax, Molly, acid, and cocaine when he was only 16. Seeing Mary Cosby break down in tears really showed how deeply everyone cares about him and how worried we all are.
Wiping away tears during a particularly emotional moment, Mary Cosby told her son, “I can try to help, but you need to help yourself too.”
I was so deeply moved to hear Cosby Jr. open up about his battle with depression. He shared something incredibly personal – he told his mother that she was the single most important reason he chose to keep going, that she literally saved his life. It’s a powerful testament to the strength of their bond and how crucial family support can be.
Mary Cosby shared, “I love you more than anything else in the world. You mean so much to me – you’re like a son and a true friend, a gift from God. You’ve brought more joy to my life than anything else.”
Mary Cosby was one of the first cast members on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” which premiered in 2020. During the Season 6 reunion show that aired on January 20th, she shared her worries about her son’s health and expressed a fear of losing him.
Cosby Jr. was in jail in Salt Lake County after being arrested in November for breaking a court order meant to protect his former wife, Alexiana Smokoff. He admitted guilt to eight charges that month, including assault and illegally entering private property.
The couple quietly got married in 2022 while the show was filming its fourth season. Smokoff filed for divorce from Cosby Jr. last November after being married for three years.
× During the reunion, Cosby explained he wasn’t concerned about his son. He believes it’s important to let him learn from his own experiences and make his own choices, even if those choices lead to difficult lessons. Cosby accepts that his son is currently facing those challenges and is learning through hardship.
Andy Cohen, who leads the production of the “Real Housewives” franchise, shared his sympathy in a post on his Instagram Stories.
Cohen expressed that this situation is what every parent fears most. He shared his deep sympathy for Mary and sent his love to both her and Robert Sr.
I was scrolling through Mary Cosby’s Instagram and noticed a ton of support from the ‘Real Housewives’ cast in the comments. It was really sweet to see them rallying around her!
Cynthia Bailey, known from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” expressed her sympathy, saying she’s thinking of you and your family and hopes your loved one is now at peace.
Kyle Richards, from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” expressed her deep sympathy, saying she was incredibly sorry for the loss and sending her thoughts and prayers.
