As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Rachel Gunn, or Raygun as she’s fondly known, has truly experienced a remarkable transformation, both personally and professionally. Her performance at the Paris Olympics was undeniably unique and sparked quite the conversation within the world of breakdancing.
Australian breakdancer Rachel Gunn seems to have experienced a remarkable transformation following her sudden fame as a standout in the first-ever women’s competition at the Paris Olympics.
On Monday, the 37-year-old individual known as Raygun arrived back in Australia with a noticeably changed look, carrying an upbeat demeanor.
The dancer showed off her sun-kissed, tanned skin and wrinkle-free complexion.
Raygun was wearing loose denim pants and a worn-out turquoise shirt, yet she seemed cheerful as she walked casually through the airport.
She had her dark brown hair pulled back into a loose, disheveled bun after straightening it, with round-framed tortoiseshell glasses resting on her head.
Instead of her initial Olympic breakdance performance, which saw her confidently sporting the Australian team outfit and a pair of white New Balance shoes, this look was strikingly different.
At the time, her hair was wavy and styled out in a short bob under her green and gold cap.
At the Olympics, the breakdancer facing challenges instantly gained popularity due to her performance, making it the talk of the town as the most discussed event moment.
Her distinctive actions, such as leaping like a kangaroo and gliding over the floor, unfortunately didn’t aid her in the competition and instead made her a target for mockery, ultimately turning her into a worldwide phenomenon.
Last week, Raygun gave her first TV interview on the viral moment, appearing on The Project on Wednesday to discuss the ordeal with host Waleed Aly.
In the candid conversation, Raygun stood firm on her popular stunt, attributing it to a shortage of necessary resources. Later, she stunned everyone with an unexpected career decision: stepping away from competitions.
Additionally, she confessed that she hasn’t yet seen her recently controversial act, while taking aim at her detractors by emphatically stating that they fail to grasp the intricacies of breakdancing.
Following claims that she trivialized breakdancing, Raygun retorted at her detractors, asserting they fail to grasp her unique artistic approach, and advocated for increased funding towards the sport in Australia.
She mentioned that we require additional resources in Australia for us to stand a chance against the world champions.
Historically, it’s a fact that our team hasn’t been particularly successful in winning World Championships. Therefore, it’s not entirely my responsibility if we haven’t won one.
She continued, “Many replies stem from a lack of experience or understanding about the wide range of techniques involved in dancing called ‘breaking.’
‘It was so fantastic that the next day the judging chair, MG, came out and explained that in the breaking community what I did actually wasn’t very shocking.
“Did you know there are two main styles when it comes to breaking? Some focus on athleticism, while others lean towards artistry. Regardless of the style, they each bring something unique and valid to the dance.
Despite the worldwide viewings of her performance, Raygun confessed that she hasn’t taken the time to watch it due to the recent controversy.
She admitted that she hasn’t rewatched it, and that’s typical of her behavior. After all, she’s not very good at reviewing her own battles.
It seems there will be a wait involved. While I’ve caught glimpses of it here and there, rest assured, I plan to catch up with it at a later point.
Raygun’s fame after the Paris Olympics doesn’t seem to be fading, as indicated by one of her latest well-known associates.
Over the weekend, during an early Saturday morning in Australia, Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, danced with a well-known yet contentious artist while cruising on a Virgin Voyages voyage in the Mediterranean.
The video captures the moment Raygun is enthusiastically invited on stage, followed by thunderous applause, and then proceeds to discuss her favorite aspects of breakdancing.

First, the B-girl steps onto the dance floor, followed shortly by Branson who performs his well-known kangaroo hop dance move.
‘Oh Richard, that was so three weeks ago, come on,’ Raygun said, laughing it off.
Afterward, she engages the audience in a communal dance, positioning herself at the edge of the pool and motivating everyone to mimic her moves, creating an atmosphere similar to a group aquatic exercise session.
‘That’s it, get it out – get some attitude!’
Branson then appears beside Raygun, taking her hand and pulling her into the pool with him.
The pair wade through the shallow edge before jumping into the deeper water while holding hands.
Raygun conversed with the legendary British singer, Boy George, during the Scarlet Lady voyage at Branson’s invitation. The occasion was a celebration of her unique talent and individuality.
