Rap legend Rick Ross reveals brutal injury he nearly incurred after viral pool flop as he prepares for career milestone

Rap superstar Rick Ross is getting ready to mark a huge moment in his career: the 20th anniversary of his rise to fame.

In 2006, Rick Ross, then 50 years old, launched his music career with the platinum-selling album, Port of Miami. This album was the first step in a successful journey that has transformed him from a rapper into a business leader.

Ross is publishing his third memoir, titled Renaissance of a Boss: Notes from a Creative Reawakening. The book details how he overcame a period of creative stagnation.

Ross is a highly successful entrepreneur with a diverse range of businesses, including a record label. He also owns a large estate in Georgia, called The Promise Land, which features what is believed to be the largest residential swimming pool in the United States.

This is where he famously threw pool parties and once seriously injured his leg trying a daring dive into the pool – a move he’d nicknamed ‘The Double Decker Slapper’.

He told The Daily Mail that he nearly broke his leg, but was still having a good time. He shared this at a party celebrating his new memoir at The Peppermint Club on Saturday, and also mentioned plans for a pool party after a car show on June 13th.

That’s just part of our tradition, and we’re excited to share it with you. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

In 2014, Ross bought the 109-room mansion for $5.8 million at auction. The property previously belonged to boxing legend Evander Holyfield.

Eventually, the property went into foreclosure and was bought by Ross. In 2020, he expanded his estate by adding another 87 acres for $1 million.

It represents everything he’s achieved through years of hard work and dedication as both a musician and an entrepreneur.

Ross was born in Mississippi and grew up in Carol City, Florida.

He worked as a prison guard for two years, something he later attempted to downplay when the information came to light during his career.

But now, 12 albums later, Ross is grateful for the struggles life presented to him early on.

He said to The Daily Mail that he valued the challenges and setbacks he’d faced, seeing them as necessary preparation for future success.

It’s something you have to value and find the good in, you know? If I could talk to my younger self, I’d tell him he was almost there and shouldn’t give up. It’s like being on the verge of graduating from school and then dropping out right at the end – don’t do that, just keep going.

Now, decades later, Ross will be releasing his 12th studio album, Set In Stone.

Ross didn’t want to simply repeat past successes with the new project. He viewed the album as a chance to push his creative boundaries and experiment with new techniques in the studio.

As someone who’s always striving for personal growth, I recently pushed my own boundaries with my music. And that’s really what a ‘renaissance’ feels like to me – it’s about constantly evolving and refusing to settle when it feels like you’ve hit a limit. It’s not about reaching a peak, but about realizing there is no ceiling!

I wanted to create an album that wasn’t just good, but truly surpassed anything I’d done before. That was my main goal. I focused on making music that felt fresh and gave the industry something new – a contribution I felt was needed. I’m really looking forward to sharing it with everyone when it finally comes out.

Given Ross’s history as a successful entrepreneur with many different passions, it might be surprising to learn he once struggled with a lack of creative inspiration – something he discusses in his new book.

I’m really proud of this book and the entire ‘Set In Stone’ project. I think it’s going to be a great year for me – for Ricky Rozay – and for everyone who supports me,” he said to The Daily Mail.

Ross celebrated the launch of his upcoming memoir with an event at The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood. He read a portion of the book, answered questions from the audience, and then performed a special concert for his devoted fans.

His memoir, Renaissance of a Boss: Notes from a Creative Reawakening, will be released on May 12.
