There are two types of defensive playstyles in Rainbow Six Mobile, those that leave the objective site and actively track the attackers (roamers) and those that move close to the objective site and wait for the attackers. The latter is called anchoring, and although it seems like a passive strategy, it can get intense. In this guide, we will explain how defenders can ably anchor a site on defensive rounds, and share some tips and tricks for anchoring throughout the round. Once attackers have claimed their target, it’s up to the anchors to prevent them from winning. Mastering the art of anchoring on defense is essential for all R6M players, and even roamers will find themselves in this role at times. Here, we delve into techniques for safeguarding the objective site and recommend operators well-suited to play as anchors.

Best Operators for Anchoring

In Rainbow Six Mobile (R6M), the top defenders for fortifying positions excel in their specialized defensive tools, balanced weaponry options, and robust armor attributes. While any operator can effectively anchor if skillfully utilized, it’s not essential to exclusively choose dedicated anchors.

As a die-hard fan, I’d say Rook stands out as a steadfast anchor with impressive armor stats. His trusty MP5 offers easy handling and packs quite the punch in terms of damage. What truly sets Rook apart is his armored pack, an essential asset for team support, and his Deployable Shield, which comes in handy when holding down fort. Many other operators can also excel as anchors, but Smoke and Mute boast powerful shotguns for taking out foes at close quarters. Similarly, Kapkan, Jager, Valkyrie, and Bandit are equally capable of making a strong anchor point.

It’s best to steer clear of operators who excel at roaming, such as Caveira. Their distinct skills are more effective when used for roaming rather than being stationary near an objective. However, it’s important to note that these operators might need to hold down defense positions at specific times during the game.

Preparation Phase

During this stretch, defenders can strategically set up devices, strengthen barriers, and find concealed safe zones. This 45-second window offers an advantage as attacks are temporarily halted, so it’s crucial for players to thoughtfully utilize this respite.

Cover as many entry points as possible

As a passionate gamer, I’ve found that fortifying various access points in my strategic positions can provide a significant advantage. A potential entryway could be a door, window, soft wall, or even a ceiling hatch. However, merely barricading them might not be enough. To bolster your defenses, consider utilizing gadgets like Kapkan’s Entry Denial Device or Bandit’s Shock Wire for the doorways and windows. For soft walls exposed on the other side, reinforce them strategically, but avoid reinforcing those separating bomb sites within rooms as it may hinder your own gameplay. To make the reinforced walls inaccessible to attackers, I recommend using Bandit’s Shock Wire. If possible, don’t forget to reinforce wooden hatches too!

The Jager’s Magpie Defense System is an incredible device designed to intercept and neutralize projectiles before they explode. Position them near entrances if possible, and make an effort to hide them for stealthiness. Valkyrie’s Black Eye cameras are excellent for intelligence gathering throughout the game, strategically place these in corners of the objective site, and in areas not typically monitored by standard cameras.

Deal with drones quickly

It’s often the case that attackers guide drones into concealed locations around the target area. To prevent them from finding cover, it’s crucial to eliminate these drones promptly. Mute’s Jammer device is an effective tool for this purpose; placing them near vents and doorways can disable the drones. Drones frequently hide in vents, under or on top of tables, or on shelves or high surfaces.

Set up cover spots for anchoring

It might be advantageous for committed anchors to create concealed positions within the main objective area, often referred to as “cover spots.” These are small, enclosed areas that offer protection on all sides, but still have openings or vantage points. Anchors can utilize these as secure positions when operating cameras or maintaining angles. Keep in mind that reinforced walls can still be broken through by explosive breachers, so they only truly function as cover spots if fortified with Bandit’s Shock Charges. Deployable shields are also beneficial for creating cover spots during gameplay.

Making rotation holes

Anchoring isn’t about just sitting in the same spot, anchors may still need to move spots at times. Having exit points nearby can be useful if you ever need to evacuate quickly. These are called rotation holes and are essentially manufactured holes to move through, created by shotguns, impact grenades or similar explosives. Initially, it might seem like unnecessary destruction at first but later on, these holes might come in useful for quick flanks around the objective site.

In Bomb gameplay, there are two locations where bombs need to be protected, situated in distinct areas. Maintaining one or two accessible routes between these spots is crucial; thus, avoid fortifying partitioning doorways and weak walls. It might also be beneficial to carve out strategic openings, or rotational paths, in the soft walls to ensure a continuous link between both bomb sites.

Anchoring during the Round

Holding Angles

This means keeping an eye on possible access points, ready if an attacker comes near. Paying close attention (tactical focus) is beneficial because it eliminates the need for fast reactions. Players should also make sure their body is hidden by leaning when aiming. It’s important to check that no other entry points are open, such as doorways or weak walls on the side or behind the player, which could leave them vulnerable.

Strive to make these angles tight, similar to the image shown here. The narrower the space, the more effectively you’ll hide your body. This forces attackers to expose themselves more when scanning the room, potentially positioning them exactly where we want them. Lastly, try to predict from which direction the operator’s head will emerge. While this can be tricky to master, it’s the most efficient way of inflicting maximum damage through headshots.

Checking Cameras

As a gamer, having real-time intel on an enemy’s location while defending is simply game-changing. The cameras in this game serve as excellent tools for this purpose, and Valkyrie’s Black Eye cams are no exception when properly placed. But remember, lingering too long on these cams can make you a target. Instead, use them for swift checks of the area, and always ensure your immediate surroundings are secure before focusing on the feed from the cameras.

Making quick flanks

In previous discussions, it’s important to understand that anchoring isn’t just about staying put at the objective location. There might be chances to position yourself strategically on the outskirts to surprise attackers. At times, when anchoring, attackers could find themselves drawn into firefights at the objective site. This can leave them vulnerable from behind. Instead, move around the exterior to approach them from a different angle. This tactic can lead to successful kills and force them back. The smooth transitions between moving freely and holding positions are what sets effective defenders apart in Rainbow Six Mobile.

Avoid Overly Aggressive/Passive Playstyles

In this game, it’s important to understand that time often works in favor of the defenders. Winning doesn’t necessarily mean eliminating every single attacker; sometimes, simply letting the clock run out is sufficient. Therefore, overly aggressive tactics might not always be the best choice. Also, be cautious about entering areas with minimal camera coverage, as there could be multiple attackers waiting in ambush.

On the flip side, a strategy that’s excessively passive shouldn’t be your go-to either. Be wary of staying in one place for extended periods, as assailants can approach from various angles and encircle your position. Striking the right balance between aggression and patience is crucial when holding down a position, ensuring you stay alert and adaptable.
