Radio 1 star Greg James says his father is finally out of the hospital seven weeks after he suffered a stroke during a heart operation

Greg James announced that his father has come home from the hospital after seven weeks. His father had a stroke while undergoing heart surgery.

Radio One DJ, aged 40, recently shared that his father, Alan Milward, is battling after a stroke, and isn’t currently fully responsive.

Alan, a close friend of Greg’s, had a stroke while undergoing a scheduled heart procedure. Because of this, Greg cancelled his show earlier this month to support his family.

In a new Instagram post on Monday, Greg confirmed his father is now out of the hospital.

Greg didn’t say whether his parent had fully recovered, but he did mention that their return home was positive news.

I’ve always admired the bond between Alan and Greg. They’re incredibly close – you often see them at cricket matches together! What really shows their connection, though, is that Alan has even had Greg co-host his show on Radio 1. It’s clear they’re more than just colleagues; they’re true friends.

The duo took part in a GQ interview in 2019 and Alan talked about how proud he is of his son.

I remember those days so vividly. He’d wake up around 4am, and I’d spend countless early mornings with him, holding him close and trying to soothe him back to sleep. It was exhausting, but I wouldn’t trade those quiet moments for anything.

‘But clearly it didn’t work because his first slot on Radio 1 was at 4am.’

Following his amazing 1,000km bike ride last month, Greg has announced he raised an incredible £4 million for Comic Relief.

He spent eight days cycling on a tandem bike, and was happily surprised to be joined by family, friends, and even Prince William during his ride.

The day after his incredible accomplishment, Greg celebrated by appearing live on BBC Breakfast – right from his bathtub!

Greg surprised the presenters by joining their live broadcast from his bubble bath, his head emerging from a pile of bubbles to say he was truly amazed.

Honestly, after completing that challenge, I’m still buzzing! It’s a really good feeling, a little all over the place, but I’m working on finding my center and enjoying the energy. It’s a bit of a whirlwind, but definitely a positive one!

Greg’s father Alan sadly could not be at Murrayfield Stadium to see his son cross the finish line.

Greg shared at the time that he was happy to be back home and planned to visit his father soon. He mentioned his dad had been following his progress and was thrilled with his achievement.
