After significantly growing its podcast offerings, Spotify is now focusing on expanding its selection of audiobooks.
The audio platform, based in Sweden, is working to help people find and buy books, both digital and physical. They recently announced a new feature called Page Match, which lets readers seamlessly switch between reading a physical book and listening to the audiobook version simply by scanning the page. The platform will also allow users to buy physical books directly through it.
Spotify is aiming to make reading and listening more convenient and adaptable to people’s daily routines. According to Owen Smith, Spotify’s head of audiobooks, they’re expanding their platform to include both digital and physical books, helping authors connect with readers and allowing people to enjoy books in any format, anywhere they are.
Page Match is a new feature that lets you seamlessly switch between reading a physical book (or ebook) and listening to the audiobook. Simply scan a page with your camera, and the audiobook will start playing from that exact point. It works both ways – you can also scan a page to pick up where you left off in the physical book after listening. This feature will be available to all users by the end of the month.
Page Match is available to all Premium and Audiobook+ subscribers. Free users can also use it if they’ve bought an audiobook directly through Spotify.

Bookshop.org CEO Andy Hunter expressed enthusiasm about Spotify’s potential to help local bookstores. According to a recent statement, Spotify will direct readers to Bookshop.org, providing financial support to independent booksellers with every purchase made.
