For an optimal experience when playing the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise on a console, the PlayStation 5 stands out as the top choice, leaving other consoles far behind.
Here’s the gist of Digital Foundry’s recent examination on the action RPG, as they’ve scrutinized it across every supported platform:
In simpler terms, they’ve thoroughly analyzed the game on all available devices.
Earlier this week, we conducted our personal evaluation of Wilds, yet it’s obvious that the team at Digital Foundry are the real experts. Consequently, their analysis offers a captivating read, detailing significant enhancements observed in Sony’s premium platform.
Among all modes, the standout performer is the ‘Optimize for Frame Rate’. This mode has been our go-to choice due to its self-explanatory title, offering a more fluid gaming experience with an almost consistent 60 frames per second throughout.
On a standard PlayStation 5, adjusting this setting significantly degrades the visual clarity, noticeably reducing the resolution and giving the image a somewhat blurry or indistinct appearance, much like walking through mud.
As a devoted fan, I must admit that the game looks significantly better and runs more smoothly on the Pro version. Digital Foundry attributes this enhancement to a blend of enhanced hardware (as expected) and Sony’s PSSR upscaler. It might not be mind-blowing, as the resolution remains around 1080p internally, but the overall visual quality is almost like day turning into night compared to the original.
For the ‘Balanced’ and ‘Prioritize Resolution’ configurations on the PS5 Pro, you’ll find a similar narrative unfolding. These settings offer enhanced resolution, clarity in visuals, and smoother frame rates compared to their standard PS5 counterparts. Moreover, these modes incorporate ray tracing technology, adding a layer of realism to the game’s graphics.
While PS5 Pro users can certainly enjoy the benefits of the various modes, none are flawless, as we pointed out in our assessment. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an ideal setting for Wilds that offers both high-definition visuals and smooth frame rates, which is indeed unfortunate.
The aim, therefore, is for Capcom to enhance the game’s speed and efficiency via post-release updates. Since we’ve noticed comparable performance problems with Dragon’s Dogma 2, which also utilizes Capcom’s RE Engine, further tuning will be crucial in this case.
Are you planning to play Monster Hunter World on the PlayStation 5 Pro? Were you hoping for improved performance from the game? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about achieving a stable 60 frames per second (fps) in the comment section below.
