The new season of the show is off to a strong start, proving the creators are delivering on what fans want – and sticking to their core idea that any character could die. Previous seasons were famous for their intense violence, and early signs suggest season five will be just as shocking and unpredictable.

The final season of The Boys plunges into chaos, described as a world dominated by Homelander. The team is fractured: Mother’s Milk, Hughie, and Frenchie are held captive at Freedom Camp, while Starlight spearheads the fight against Homelander. With Butcher racing against time and a virus that could eliminate all Supes, the danger is greater than ever before.

Fans can expect to see characters from Gen V and The Boys at the event, plus a special reunion of Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. The Boys’ fifth season will continue to address political themes, mirroring current events in the U.S. According to showrunner Eric Kripke, who spoke with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant, the season was written before the election.

Eric Kripke explains that early seasons of the show directly mirrored real-world events. However, season five was different. They started speculating about how authoritarianism might manifest in America, drawing on historical examples from other countries and adapting those ideas to a distinctly American context. Kripke initially hoped this fictional portrayal would serve as a warning and that viewers would feel relieved it hadn’t happened. Unfortunately, recent events proved those fears were well-founded, and he’s disturbed by how many of the show’s once-extreme scenarios have actually come true in concerning ways.

We hope viewers watch ‘The Boys’ and realize how disturbingly plausible it is. We weren’t trying to predict the future, but rather explore what a truly dangerous and oppressive figure in America might look like. Honestly, our biggest hope is that the show will be a wake-up call. We want people to look around and recognize that some of the frightening things depicted are actually happening in the real world, and that’s a problem we should address. Though, realistically, we don’t expect the show to change anything. The last few years have taught us that ‘The Boys’ is probably better at simply pointing out problems than solving them.
