Prime Is Taking A Big Risk With Their Reacher Rival Thanks To The Wait Between Seasons

Four years have passed since the first season of The Terminal List, leaving many to wonder if there’s still an audience eager for the delayed second season. The show, based on Jack Carr’s novels, stars Chris Pratt as a Navy SEAL seeking revenge after his family is tragically killed.

The finale of The Terminal List hinted at what’s to come in a potential second season, and there’s a lot more of the original book series that the show could adapt. However, Chris Pratt is a very busy actor, making it difficult to schedule him for another eight episodes.

Why It’s Taken Four Years For The Terminal List Season 2 To Arrive

Since the show first came out, Chris Pratt has starred in films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Electric State, and Mercy. He’s also been the voice of both Garfield and Mario, keeping him very busy. It took years to find time in his schedule to film the second season after finishing The Terminal List.

Good news! Filming for the new season is finished, and editing is underway. Season 2 of The Terminal List will be based on Chris Carr’s novel, True Believer, and is expected to premiere in late 2026. While it’s common for streaming shows to have gaps between seasons, the wait for season 2 is noticeably long.

With four years passing since the first series, many viewers will likely have forgotten what happened and might not be eager to pick up the story again. Like Prime Video’s Reacher, The Terminal List is based on a book and features a strong, former military protagonist.

The series Reacher also started in 2022, but unlike The Terminal List, it’s already produced three seasons, with more on the way in 2026—including a spin-off series. This success has made Reacher a major hit for Prime Video, and it really highlights how little new content The Terminal List has created.

Prime Produced The Terminal List Prequel Dark Wolf To Ease The Gap

Amazon anticipated Chris Pratt’s busy schedule would limit his availability, so in 2023, they commissioned The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. This prequel explores the backstory of Ben (played by Taylor Kitsch), Reece’s former friend, and how he became involved in dangerous activities.

The prequel series launched in 2025 and was even more critically acclaimed than the original show from 2022. Chris Pratt also made a few appearances on Dark Wolf, and the show featured Tom Hopper as Raife, a significant character from The Terminal List novels.

The success of this earlier story is a good sign for when the main show comes back. However, some might say that Dark Wolf worked because you didn’t need to have seen The Terminal List to enjoy it. Regardless, it reminded viewers about the franchise after a three-year break.

The Terminal List Can’t Risk Another Long Hiatus

The biggest risk is that viewers who liked the first season won’t be interested in watching the second one, especially since it’s coming out so much later. However, it’s unlikely a fast-paced show starring Pratt would completely fail once it’s released on Prime Video.

Prime took a risk by making viewers wait so long for the show’s return, and if there’s a third season of The Terminal List, it can’t afford another long break. Even dedicated fans might lose interest if they have to wait four years again.

While The Terminal List has the potential to be as successful as Reacher, it needs to gain more traction. If the second season performs well on Prime Video, they should quickly begin production on a third season to maintain audience engagement.
