This summer, Disney’s 20th Century Studios and Marvel are doing something huge: bringing together two of the most popular franchises in a special crossover event. Combining universes in movies is always exciting, especially when it lets beloved characters interact. While some crossover films, like Alien vs. Predator and Freddy vs. Jason, haven’t quite hit the mark, the core idea of seeing iconic characters battle it out is still a big draw for fans.
Big crossover events between different franchises are uncommon because they’re incredibly complicated to arrange. Getting permission and coordinating everything with multiple studios involves a lot of legal hurdles. A classic example is Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where Disney and Warner Bros. went to great lengths – even timing screen time to the millisecond – to ensure Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny had equal appearances. Today, most franchises are focusing on building their own interconnected stories and future spin-offs rather than teaming up with other universes.
It’s generally simpler to create stories in comic books, and that’s become even more true since Disney bought 20th Century Fox. This gave Disney ownership of popular franchises like Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes.
Predator And Planet Of The Apes Are Crossing Over For The First Time Ever

Marvel is bringing together two iconic sci-fi franchises in a comic book crossover: Predator vs. Planet of the Apes. The five-issue series, written by Greg Pak (known for Planet Hulk) and illustrated by Alan Robinson (Longshots), will debut in July 2026. The story follows astronaut Arch, whose rescue mission goes wrong and leaves her stranded on a future Earth dominated by apes. But her troubles don’t stop there – she also has to contend with the arrival of deadly Yautja hunters, sparking a full-scale war between the apes and the Predators.
Considering the backgrounds of both the Predator and Planet of the Apes series, the upcoming crossover will probably focus on the interesting situation of the apes being hunted and treated like animals – a stark contrast to their usual role as dominant beings who control humans. The Predators will likely see the strong Gorilla soldiers and clever Chimpanzee leaders as valuable trophies, potentially leading to an unlikely team-up between the human character, Arch, and the apes who have captured her. Ultimately, humanity’s fate could depend on Arch’s understanding of 21st-century technology and knowledge.
The Yautja, or Predators, are much stronger and more durable than humans, able to lift incredible weight, break through concrete, and survive extreme falls. While powerful apes like chimpanzees and gorillas are several times stronger than humans, they are still susceptible to the Predators’ heat vision and plasma weapons. However, apes have a significant advantage in numbers, and their ability to work together and use their surroundings as weapons can sometimes overcome even the Predators’ superior technology.
Predator Vs The Planet Of The Apes Builds Off Of Two Previous Crossovers
Disney’s Acquisition Of Fox Opened The Door For Unprecedented Crossover Titles
Marvel has released a lot of exciting crossover comics in recent years. For example, Predator Kills the Marvel Universe features a Predator using technology stolen from Weapon X to hunt down every Marvel hero. Planet of the Apes vs the Fantastic Four throws a powerless Fantastic Four into Ape City, where they must survive a trial while accidentally giving apes cosmic powers. For fans of horror, Aliens vs. Avengers shows a future where Earth is destroyed by a Xenomorph invasion, and Alien vs. Captain America pits the iconic hero against the creature during World War II.
This surge in creative crossovers happened because Disney bought 21st Century Fox. This brought the rights to popular franchises like Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes together under the Marvel Comics banner. Before the acquisition, any team-ups between these universes were unusual and required special agreements. Now that they all belong to the same company, Marvel can freely explore these franchises within its larger multiverse, offering fans thrilling one-on-one battles between legendary science fiction characters.
Now that Disney owns many more franchises, Marvel is looking at some exciting crossover possibilities. They could potentially create stories like a battle between Marvel heroes and the Terminators, where a Terminator tries to eliminate key figures like a young Hank Pym or Iron Man to change the future. We might also see a crossover with Avatar, featuring the technologically advanced RDA forces clashing with the Avengers on the planet Pandora. And with Marvel now owning the rights, a modern take on the classic Aliens vs. Predator vs. The Terminator comic series is also a real possibility.
