Power Rangers Officially Return In A Major Way On July 28

Released near the end of 2024, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind came out between two other popular beat-’em-up games: Tribute’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (released a couple of years earlier) and Marvel Cosmic Invasion (released shortly after). While made by the talented Digital Eclipse, it unfortunately didn’t receive as much praise as Shredder’s Revenge, which is disappointing.

Despite its initial challenges, Power Rangers is getting a surprising boost less than two years after release. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind deserves another chance to reach players, and it will when it becomes available for free on PlayStation Plus in just over a week.

This month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind! The game is coming to the PS Plus Game Catalog and will be playable on both PS4 and PS5 for those with Extra or Premium subscriptions. This news was announced earlier this week on the official PlayStation Blog.

While games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rise of the Ronin, and Firefighting Simulator: Ignite are already playable, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will be added on July 28th in the US, UK, and Japan.

The release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is well-timed, as it could stay popular for longer if it reaches new players. The recent announcement of downloadable content for Marvel Cosmic Invasion shows that game is doing well, and it would be great if Rita’s Rewind could benefit from that success in the 2D beat-’em-up genre, which doesn’t usually have many new releases or widespread popularity.

While beat-’em-up games aren’t hugely popular, Marvel Cosmic Invasion likely benefited from featuring well-known Marvel heroes. Fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge were probably already eager to see what the same developers could do with a Marvel game using similar gameplay.

A common complaint about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind was its high price. However, with the availability of PS Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions, that concern is lessened. It will be interesting to see if more players pick up the game now that it’s more affordable, especially given the current economic climate.
