Dacre Montgomery, known for his role in Stranger Things, has said he’s open to acting in a Marvel or DC superhero movie – as long as the project is creatively appealing to him.
Dacre Montgomery on which Marvel or DC character he’d like to play
Dacre Montgomery, while discussing his new film Dead Man’s Wire, shared his thoughts on potentially joining a superhero movie. He told The Direct that he’s less focused on which superhero character he’d play, and more interested in who directs the film.
Montgomery said he’s open to any project, as long as he respects the director. He also noted that while superhero movies are popular again, many people are starting to get tired of them. Ultimately, he explained, a compelling creative vision is what would make him want to participate in one.
He complimented filmmakers who’ve revolutionized how comic books are adapted to the screen, specifically praising Zack Snyder’s dark and intense take on Watchmen, which he personally loved. He also highlighted Taika Waititi for injecting new life into the earlier Thor films. Montgomery explained that directors who’ve brought unique visions to superhero movies – changing the genre’s overall style – are what now draw him in, a welcome change after many years of predictable releases.
I’ve seen Michael Montgomery’s name pop up a lot when people are talking about superhero casting. A lot of fans really wanted him to play Johnny Storm in the new Fantastic Four movie, but that ended up going to Joseph Quinn. Before that, there was even buzz about him maybe taking over as Wolverine after Hugh Jackman hung up the claws. It’s cool to see him consistently in the conversation!
Currently, Montgomery is working on Dead Man’s Wire, a historical thriller film directed by Gus Van Sant. It premiered in limited release on January 9, 2026.
