Police drama with Friends icon starring as a “burnt-out LAPD detective” is in the works

Matt LeBlanc, known for his role in Friends, might be returning to television in a new police drama on CBS. According to Variety, if the show is approved, it’s expected to begin airing in late 2027 and continue into early 2028.

The upcoming show, currently called Flint, stars Jean-Luc LeBlanc as a weary Los Angeles detective. Just as he’s about to retire, the city unexpectedly extends his employment for another five years, throwing a wrench into his plans.

The logline reveals that he intentionally tries to get fired by breaking the rules and ignoring orders, but surprisingly, this actually makes him a more effective police officer.

The new show, Flint, has a promising concept and a strong team behind it. Evan Katz, who has worked on popular series like 24, The Event, and Special Unit 2, is leading the project, and Jerry Bruckheimer’s production company is also involved. Currently, details are scarce as the show is still in the initial stages of development.

Matt LeBlanc became famous for playing Joey Tribbiani on the popular TV show Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004. He later revisited the role in the spin-off series Joey, though it only lasted from 2004 to 2006.

Following a break from acting, Matt LeBlanc famously played a version of himself in the comedy Episodes from 2011 to 2017. He then starred in Man with a Plan for four seasons, concluding in 2020.

He also hosted several seasons of the BBC show Top Gear in the late 2010s. He hasn’t been very active recently, so the approval of Flint would be like a second major return to the spotlight for him.

Lisa Kudrow, known for her role in Friends, also made a comeback earlier this year with the third season of The Comeback. This funny, realistic show follows Valerie Cherish, an actress struggling to stay famous in Hollywood.

The show’s third and final season is currently unfolding week by week, and focuses on her challenge of acting in a new comedy series created by artificial intelligence, which she’s trying to hide from her colleagues.

Flint has no release date.
