Pokémon Winds & Waves Will Have Historic Launch, According To New Info

I’ve been so hyped for Pokémon Winds and Waves, and even after seeing the new Gen 10 starters in the February Pokémon Presents, there’s still so much we don’t know! But now, some info has popped up online, and it’s looking really good – it seems like Winds and Waves could be amazing on the Switch 2!

The CentroLeaks account on X posted a picture showing a list of games expected to be available when the Switch 2 launches. The list includes previously released titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. According to the post, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves were some of the first games officially started in development for the new console. You can see the full post below.

Pokémon Gen 10 Was Greenlit Early On Switch 2

Considering the recent TeraLeak, which indicates development of the Generation 10 Pokémon Winds and Waves games began in 2021, things are looking positive. Previous Pokémon games have faced criticism for feeling rushed, leading to performance problems and a lack of the quality fans expect from such a popular franchise.

Since the next generation of Pokémon games isn’t coming out until 2027, development on Pokémon Winds and Waves is expected to take six years. That’s a much longer development process than previous Pokémon games, which usually take less time to create.

So, I’ve been hearing that Scarlet and Violet only took about two and a half years to make, which is way less time than previous Pokémon games. Hopefully, that extra development time for the new Gen 10 games launching next year will really show and make them amazing!

Can More Development Time Help Winds & Waves?

The key question is whether the extra time being spent on development will actually resolve the performance problems that have bothered players in Scarlet and Violet, particularly when the games first came out. While Pokémon‘s attempt at a truly open-world experience with Generation 9 was ambitious, the resulting games received mixed reviews. Many players felt the world was empty, and the various technical issues quickly became a popular topic online. The previous Switch games, Sword and Shield, also faced similar criticisms.

Although the previous Pokémon games became more stable after release, the developers are aiming for a smoother launch with Pokémon Winds and Waves, especially if they have more time to work on the next generation of games. We’ll probably have to wait until the 2027 release to know for sure. It’s a good sign that Pokémon Winds and Waves was approved for development so early, and appears to be a key project for the new Switch 2 console.
