Patrick Muldoon tragically passed away from a heart attack on Sunday at the age of 57. The day before, he had sent a final video message to his sister.
It was a particularly touching moment for me, seeing that clip. He was highlighting such a beautiful piece of art – Domenico Zampieri’s painting of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, created around 1622. It really added another layer of emotion to the scene, knowing the significance of that artwork.
The celebrity attended the launch of the new David Geffen Galleries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Saturday.
This week, Shana Muldoon Zappa, 48, posted a video on Instagram remembering her brother, Patrick Muldoon. She described him as a funny, talented, athletic, and deeply spiritual person—a true friend and the best brother, son, and uncle anyone could have asked for.
In a video shared just two days before he passed away, Muldoon appeared lively and cheerfully quirky, and he had expressed enthusiasm about a new project with Chris Hemsworth.
I’m here at the new LACMA, and I’m immediately struck by Zampieri’s famous painting. It’s a beautiful piece, created in 1622, depicting Ignatius – Loyola.
He then enthusiastically shouted a cheer from his former high school, Loyola High School in Los Angeles – ‘LL-LOY!’ He added that he believed this was likely what the person in the picture was feeling or thinking at the time.
You know, I was chatting with a friend – she’s married to Ahmet Zappa – and she shared a fun story about a chant everyone’s been hearing. Apparently, it originated back in her brother’s high school football days. He went to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and that’s where the chant first started – a real throwback to their school spirit!
She explained that the family plans to hold a memorial service at some point, but they need more time to grieve before they can make those arrangements.
‘I continue to speak of him in present tense. Because his spirit is all around me. He just changed forms,’ Zappa wrote.
According to his manager, actor David Muldoon passed away Sunday morning from a heart attack at his home in Beverly Hills, where he lived with his girlfriend, Miriam Rothbart.
The actor, famous for his work on “Days of Our Lives” and “Melrose Place,” was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor by his girlfriend after he went to shower. Paramedics tried to save him, but were unsuccessful.
Denise Richards, 55, who used to date and act with him in the 1997 movie Starship Troopers, posted on Instagram about their long-time friendship.
She shared on Tuesday that she was utterly heartbroken by the loss of her closest friend, who she considered family.
We first connected in an acting class. I was nineteen, completely new to professional acting, and you were twenty-one, studying at USC while already appearing on the show Who’s the Boss.
‘And here we are. 36 years later. My whole adult life and I don’t know it without you.’
Richards shared a heartfelt Instagram post with a video showing photos and clips of the couple together over the years, all set to the song “Everything I Own” by Bread.
Our bond was something truly special – a rare and unwavering friendship filled with love, support, respect, and loyalty. You had a way of brightening up any space you entered, she added.
You had an incredibly magnetic personality and people were naturally drawn to you. You were a remarkably talented, yet surprisingly humble, actor who didn’t get the recognition you deserved.
You had a wonderful way of brightening everyone’s day. Your laughter was contagious, and your kindness, intelligence, resilience, loyalty, and love for life inspired everyone around you.
We’ve always supported each other through everything. I’ll cherish our many memories forever, and I’m so grateful for your unwavering loyalty and protection – you’ve always been there for me like no one else.
She confessed she had no idea how she’d cope without them, particularly after the difficult year she’d been through.
‘And now I need you more than ever, for this pain and heartache losing you.
My love, we’ve shared so many talks about growing old together, imagining we’d live forever, or at least a very long life. I’ll be searching for signs that you’re still with me, because I need to feel your presence. I love you deeply and miss you terribly.
They dated for almost five years and have since become close friends who still work together. Their latest project, the crime thriller Dirty Hands, will be available digitally on Friday.
James Muldoon was a familiar face on daytime television, playing Austin Reed on ‘Days of Our Lives’ from 1992 to 1995 and Richard Hart on ‘Melrose Place’ for three seasons, until 1996.
You might remember him from the ’90s – he actually dated Tori Spelling back when she was starring on Beverly Hills, 90210 and he was on Melrose Place! It was quite the power couple at the time.
