Sharon Osbourne expressed her gratitude to the Grammy Awards for the beautiful musical tribute they gave to her late husband, Ozzy, during Sunday’s show.
Ozzy Osbourne died at his home in Buckinghamshire on July 22nd following a heart attack and cardiac arrest. This came just three weeks after his final performance with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham.
During the Grammys’ tribute to those we’ve lost, Post Malone teamed up with music legends Slash, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, and Andrew Wyatt to perform Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” The performance brought the late rocker’s wife, Kelly, and Jack to tears.
The song, first popular with a groundbreaking metal band back in 1970, was a standout performance of the evening. Sharon, age 73, later said that Post Malone and his group had given the song a new life, making it a classic.
She shared video of the performance on X, calling it more than just a show – a historic musical moment. She emphasized that rock music isn’t stuck in the past, but is still vibrant, changing, and central to music today.
You, Post, were incredible – a truly versatile artist with an amazing voice that fit any style. And Slash, Duff, Andrew, and Chad, you’re all masters at what you do and absolute legends. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
‘Ozzy was definitely in the building.’
Equally enthralled by the performance, son Jack, 40, added: ‘Zero notes – PERFECT.’
Ozzy’s funeral was a private event held at his home in Buckinghamshire, and was attended by his family and many famous musicians.
Sharon, his wife, and their children were joined by musicians like Marilyn Manson and Zakk Wylde, Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist, at a gathering held on the family’s 250-acre property near Gerrards Cross.
He died only a few weeks after performing his final concert at Villa Park stadium in his hometown of Birmingham.
Just three weeks before he passed away, he played a concert with his original Black Sabbath bandmates – a reunion that hadn’t happened since 2005.
Over 42,000 fans attended the Back To The Beginning show, and during his final remarks, the performer expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘I can’t express how much this means to me – thank you from the bottom of my heart.’
Official records stated the rock legend died from three conditions: a cardiac arrest that happened outside of a hospital, a severe heart attack, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease which affected his body’s automatic functions.
Ozzy Osbourne’s family announced his passing last July, sharing that he died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. They expressed their immense sadness in a statement, saying they were heartbroken to report his death.
Oh my gosh, it was EVERYTHING! Sunday night was just… unreal. Post Malone and his incredible band were playing, and they launched into one of Ozzy’s biggest hits! Honestly, seeing that performance just completely wrecked me in the best way. The whole family was falling apart with emotion, it was such a powerful moment. I’m still not over it!
Kelly looked deeply upset, with her mother, Sharon, wiping away tears beside her. Her brother, Jack, stood rigidly, clearly fighting back his own emotions.
It was clear the three of them were deeply saddened, their faces showing how much the tribute affected them. Even though Kelly admitted she’d been preparing herself emotionally while on the red carpet, their grief was still very apparent.
She said, speaking on the live Grammy’s red carpet, that she was overwhelmed with emotion. ‘It’s hard to put into words how much this means,’ she explained. ‘Seeing the respect and love he receives from other artists and the music community—the way he deserves—is incredibly moving.’
Ozzy was one of heavy metal’s true trailblazers, first with Black Sabbath and later as a solo icon.
Throughout his career, spanning over sixty years, he sold over 100 million albums and created iconic hits such as “Iron Man” and “Crazy Train.”
Throughout his remarkable career, he earned five Grammy Awards – two as a member of Black Sabbath and three as a solo performer – solidifying his status as a true music icon.
