Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary “Prince of Darkness,” is the subject of a new biopic in development at Sony Pictures for the past six years. His son, Jack Osbourne, revealed a “phenomenal actor” will portray his father. Ozzy, best known as the frontman of the groundbreaking band Black Sabbath – responsible for iconic songs like “Paranoid,” “Hand of Doom,” and “Iron Man” – sadly passed away in July 2025 at age 76 following a heart attack. He had been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2019 and also suffered from coronary artery disease. His death came just 17 days after his final concert, “Back to the Beginning,” at Villa Park in the UK.
Jack told Billy Morrison on the Influenced podcast that his family is actively working on the next stage of development for the movie.
We’ve been working on this film with Sony for about six years. We’ve chosen our lead actor – he’s incredibly talented, but I can’t reveal who it is yet. We also have a director on board, and we’re currently revising the script.
The 40-year-old, recently a contestant on the UK reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, said he used to keep his famous father updated on movies and shows about his life. He’d share details like who he’d met or what was happening with the projects, but his dad would simply say, “I don’t care about all that, just let me know when it’s finished so I can watch it.”
When the news about the Ozzy biopic first came out, Sharon Osbourne described their relationship as totally chaotic, even dangerous, but ultimately held together by a really strong love. I’ve heard the screenwriter might have changed from Lee Hall, who wrote Billy Elliot, but whoever plays Ozzy has to be British, in my opinion. It just wouldn’t feel right otherwise!
Sharon Osbourne Doesn’t Want To Copy ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

CBS
The upcoming series about the Osbournes will definitely have its own unique style. It won’t be copying the approach of the highly successful Bohemian Rhapsody – the Freddie Mercury movie that won four Oscars and two Golden Globes – or the Elton John biopic Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton.
Sharon explained that their film would feel much more authentic. “We’re aiming for realism, not a polished, sanitized look,” she said. “This isn’t a film for children; it’s intended for adult audiences.” She described Bohemian Rhapsody as feeling like a typical, feel-good movie about rock music, though she acknowledged it successfully exposed Queen’s music to a new generation. “It was great in that respect, but I don’t think it was a truly exceptional film.”

If biographical movies aren’t appealing, you can still enjoy Ozzy Osbourne’s fun appearances in films. Some of his best cameos are in Little Nicky, the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
