The team is working on how to develop Anran’s character to fully embody the strong, older sister role we’ve imagined for her.
Aaron Keller, the game director for Overwatch, has addressed player concerns about how the hero Anran looks in the game. Players pointed out that Anran’s final design differed from what was shown in previous previews.
Overwatch to update Anran’s appearance
In a video released on February 9th, Keller expressed gratitude for the positive response to the Overwatch Spotlight event. He then shared that the team is considering player feedback and exploring ways to better portray Anran as the strong, older sister figure they originally intended for her and Wuyang.
According to Keller, the team is working on developing Anran’s personality to better match the strong, older sister role they imagine for her. They’re pleased with the progress on Anran and the other five heroes launching this season, and believe refining this part of her character will significantly improve the in-game experience.
When Anran’s character design was first shown to Overwatch players, many noticed it didn’t quite match the earlier previews. A common observation was that she looked a lot like existing heroes such as Tracer, Juno, and D.Va. Players also pointed out that Overwatch characters frequently share similar facial features, despite having different weapons and costumes.
When will Anran’s look change in Overwatch?
Keller explained that the Overwatch team waited to release information until they were sure about what was possible. They’re aiming to include an Anran update in Season 1, but Keller hasn’t been able to share any details yet.
Our characters are very complex, and we’re focused on thoroughly testing everything to ensure quality. We’re constantly working to improve Overwatch, and Season 1 showcases the hard work and dedication of our team to the game, its world, and most importantly, our players. We can’t wait to share it with everyone when Season 1 releases tomorrow.
Keller then thanked every for their feedback and support.
