In a recent interview promoting her new film based on ‘Wuthering Heights,’ Margot Robbie shared a story about a surprisingly unusual gift she received from a male colleague early in her acting career.
In an interview with Complex, Robbie Ryan, who worked on the film directed by Emerald Fennell, shared that an actor on set gave her a book that she interpreted as a suggestion to lose weight.
When asked about the worst gift she’d ever received, the 35-year-old Australian actress remembered an actor she worked with early in her career giving her a copy of ‘Why French Women Don’t Get Fat.’
Robbie explained that the 2007 book, written by Mireille Guiliano, was mainly about eating smaller portions.
Robbie, acting alongside Jacob Elordi in a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, remembered being annoyed when Elordi gave her a copy of the book.
‘I was like, “Whoa, f*** you, dude,”‘ she said.
To prevent speculation about which of her famous co-stars might have given her the book, Robbie clarified that she received it a long time ago.
She mentioned receiving the book a long time ago and didn’t think it was given to her by a famous person, as she has no idea what happened to him now.
That cued Charli to glance directly into the camera and joke, ‘Your career’s over, babe.’
Robbie explained that someone had essentially told him to lose weight by giving him a book about it, which he found quite shocking. He said his immediate reaction was, ‘Wow.’
The actress didn’t say who gave her the book, but it was published in 2007 – several years before she began acting in American films and television.
Margot Robbie first gained attention playing a role in the short-lived ABC series Pan Am, which aired from 2011 to 2012. Her career really took off in 2013 when she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed film, The Wolf of Wall Street.
Honestly, ever since she blew up, she’s only worked with the biggest names in Hollywood! So when she tries to act like she doesn’t know what he’s been up to? Please! It just doesn’t ring true. I follow everything about them both, and it’s totally obvious she’s been aware of his work the whole time.
Before becoming a Hollywood star, I saw Margot Robbie really blossom on Australian TV. She became a household name thanks to her role on the iconic soap opera Neighbors, which sadly wrapped up in 2025 after an amazing 40-year run. It was a huge part of Australian culture, and really launched her career!
Robbie played the role of Donna Freedman on the show from 2008 to 2011, appearing in over 350 episodes.
In 2008, she made appearances on the Australian TV series City Homicide and Review With Myles Barlow. However, since gaining recognition in 2013, she’s mainly concentrated on working in films.
Her latest major film is a new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s iconic novel Wuthering Heights.
Critics have had varying opinions about the film, particularly director and screenwriter Emerald Fennell’s choice to significantly change the original story and focus more on a traditional love story.
She will star alongside Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, a role that has drawn criticism from some fans of the original novel. These fans believe the character was meant to be a person of color, although experts still disagree about what ethnicity Emily Brontë had in mind, considering the social norms of 19th-century England.
Before its release on February 13th, the new movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights faced criticism online. Some fans objected to the casting of actors of color in roles depicting the story’s most flawed characters.
