Outer Banks season 4 episode 6 actually helps us empathize with JJ's actions (Review)

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through virtual worlds and real-life drama, I must say, Outer Banks has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions this season!

The much-loved Pogues have returned! Following a month-long gap between the first and second half of Outer Banks season 4, we’re eager to unravel the plot twists that await us. In episode 5, it was disclosed that JJ’s true parents are none other than Larissa and Charles Groff. To make matters more intriguing, Sarah and Pope found themselves trapped in the catacombs with no escape route. What lies ahead? The answer unfolds in Outer Banks season 4 episode 6 titled “The Town Council.” Let’s dive into our review. SPOILER ALERT.

It’s great that John B and Cleo managed to rescue Pope and Sarah, something I had full faith they would do. These resourceful young adults were determined not to fail, clearly. Moving on to the heart of this episode, we discover how Luke came to be associated with JJ, given his role as a caring father earlier. However, what led him to become such a poor parent later on?

It seems like Charles Groff indicated he would return with funds. Given this statement, it appears that his visits and financial support might have ceased. I guess this is what I’m inferring, though I was a bit unclear about the situation. As for Luke, I can’t help but wonder why he keeps disappointing JJ. Honestly, it’s frustrating to see.

It wasn’t shocking at all that the town council meeting and vote on the Poguelandia property went against the Pogues, in favor of the Kooks instead. It’s disappointing to see them consistently losing support in their hometown. However, it was heartening this time to witness other residents from The Cut stepping up to assist them, which is not something that’s typically occurred. Usually, it has been John B., Pope, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, and Cleo fending for themselves.

I felt like I wanted to wipe away Topper’s self-satisfied grin just now. Pope has turned out to be genuine, but he’s been taken into custody for a severe offense as of late. The majority of this episode revolves around JJ damaging Kooks’ businesses and causing chaos throughout town. The outcome of the town council meeting pushes him over the edge, and I can’t help but sympathize with his frustration. It’s been hard for me to follow JJ’s actions this season, but in this case, it all makes sense.

His world has been turned upside down with the truth about his parentage and now the first real home that he has is being taken away. JJ has lived a really hard life in a town that’s never been kind to him. It feels like he’s losing everything, and he snaps. I have to give it to him. It’s crazy how much destruction he alone caused in a short amount of time. But when it comes to the Kooks, honestly good for him. They deserve it. It was fun to watch, though I do feel like this sequence was a bit too long.

In conclusion, they took him to Goat Island to meet Groff. Will he knock on the door? Let’s see how this encounter unfolds. We’ll find out more in the next episode! Fortunately, the series Outer Banks is a binge-watch so we can just click ‘next’. Meanwhile, as Sarah points out, I’m not sure if we should fully trust Rafe. He seems sincere in his own manner. However, I have my doubts. And that agreement he made with Hollis, I’m certain it will come back to haunt him. Hmm, hmm, hmm.

As a devoted fan, I must confess that while I anticipated Outer Banks season 4 episode 6 would drag on due to the extended town council meeting and JJ’s destructive escapade with his bat, I was pleasantly surprised by how swiftly it passed. Frankly, I thought it might be dull, but it turned out to be anything but. Admittedly, the prolonged chase sequence through downtown, centered around JJ, felt a tad excessive and consumed almost an entire episode. However, all things considered, it wasn’t as bad as I initially feared.

In this current season, JJ’s impulsive behavior has caused some problems for The Pogues, which I found quite vexing despite him being my beloved character. However, in this particular episode, I could truly relate to his predicament. His actions were extreme, yet predictable. The show skillfully allowed us viewers to sympathize with him, providing a perspective that helps us comprehend the reasons for his actions. Episode rating: B
