Everyone knows Keanu Reeves as a genuinely kind and humble person, which makes his new role in the Apple TV comedy Outcome a bit surprising. The show is a satire about celebrity culture, and Reeves plays Reef Hawk, a famous actor who is blackmailed and threatened with ‘cancellation’ unless he deals with his critics.
Outcome is a darkly funny movie about Reef Hawk, a famous actor played by Keanu Reeves, who faces a major crisis. Someone is threatening to ruin his career with a damaging video, and Reef must confront his past mistakes to find out who’s behind it. He gets help from his close friends Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), and his lawyer, Ira (Jonah Hill), as he tries to make things right with people he may have wronged, hoping to uncover the blackmailer’s identity.
Keanu Reeves is known for playing heroes, so this role is a departure for him, something director and co-writer Jonah Hill was likely excited to explore. Outcome is Hill’s third directorial effort, following his 2018 film Mid90s and the 2022 documentary Stutz. Hill also returns to acting after a break, playing Ira Slitz, a lawyer who helps Reeves’ character deal with a Hollywood scandal. He’s almost unrecognizable with a shaved head and a full silver-grey beard, a big change from his usual curly hair.
In the trailer, Slitz demands to know who Hawk’s enemies are. He’s secretly planning to find out who’s blackmailing Hawk and wants Hawk to apologize to everyone who might be involved, while subtly trying to figure out who actually sent the video.
